2011 BMW K1600LT Spotted in the Wild

Get excited Cordura lovers, because Tourenfahrer has spotted the 2011 BMW K1600LT out testing in Southern California. Based off the BMW Concept 6 that we brought to you live from EICMA last year, the BMW K1600LT features a six-cylinder motor that, like the Horex VR6 concept, is just marginally wider than your standard in-line four motor.

The result should be a silky smooth K-bike that any tourer can enjoy. Noticable on the bike is an adjustable windscreen and ample on-board storage, both of which are basically standard components now with sport-tourers. Expect to see the 2011 BMW K1600LT debut at EICMA later this year, if not earlier.

BMW Worldwide Sales Up 21% Through May

BMW Motorrad is reporting that worldwide motorcycle sales were up 21% for the first five months of 2010, compared to 2009’s numbers. Sales were up 19.3% for the month of May alone, with 12,139 units sold, making for 45,431 units sold thus far in 2010. The newly revised BMW R1200GS/Adventure models account for 3,705 of the motorcycles sold in May, which is up almost 34% from last year.

While the GS comprises almost a third of BMW’s total sales in May, BMW reported that the F and K series motorcycles also showed strong demand in the month as well. Also making a strong showing is the all new S1000RR superbike, which sold 1,345 units in last month for a total of 5,236 units sold this year so far.

Rumor: Marco Melandri Linked to BMW/WSBK for 2011, BMW/MotoGP for 2012?

Silly season isn’t just an event localized to the MotoGP paddock, and rumors are starting to surface in the World Superbike paddock as well. According to the paddock gossip, Marco Melandri could end up on a factory BMW ride in World Superbike next season, but the intrigue doesn’t stop there.

Part of BMW’s plan is then to have Melandri be their rider of choice when the team makes their predicted jump to MotoGP for the 2012 season. BMW team boss Davide Tardozzi is supposedly the mastermind behind the deal WSBK/MotoGP deal, although nothing seems to be set in stone at this point in time.

BMW Recalls 122,000 Motorcycles

BMW Motorrad has announced that it is recalling over 122,000 motorcycles worldwide for a potentially leaking front brake. The recall seems to only affect K1200GT, R1200R, R1200RT, R1200ST, R1200GS, and R1200GS Adventure motorcycles that were manufactured between August 2006 and May 2009.

Of these bikes, only ~100 units have been found to have the reported brake leak, but BMW isn’t taking chances with the other roughly 121,900 motorcycles that are out on the raod, and is ordering a worldwide recall on the potentially afftected models.

BMW R1200GS 30th Anniversary Edition Unveiled

BMW has released four 30th Anniversary Edition GS series motorcycles that commerate 30 years of the Bavarian dual-purpose model line. Getting the treatment are the BMW R1200GS, BMW R1200GS Adventure, BMW F800GS, and BMW F650GS. All the machines feature a white 30th Anniversary Edition paint scheme, “30 Years GS” tank decals, tinted screens, hand-guards, unique wheels, and red seats that pop “GS” on them. No word on price, but we expect only a modest price hike for this celebration of the most successful motorcycle model line worldwide. Photos after the jump.

BMW Posts 21% Sales Boost in Q1 2010

BMW continues to buck the trend, releasing sales data that shows the Bavarian company getting a 21% sales boost last quarter when compared to Q1 of 2009. The company made €351 million in sales revenue (also up 21%), which came to €32 million EBIT, up 14.3% from Q1 of last year as well. BMW cites strong sales from the S1000RR, and the newly revised R1200GS/RT as being the reason for the strong sales numbers.

More Troubles For Ruben Xaus in the Paddock Gossip

We’re only four rounds in for the 2010 World Superbike season, and already there’s increased “talk” about the possibility of Ruben Xaus getting canned by at least the end of the season. After a stellar showing by the BMW crew at Assen (at least for Troy Corser) all eyes are again on Xaus who managed to crash four times (we feel like we’ve heard this before) at the Dutch track.

BMW S1000RR 191hp Dyno Run on Video

Ever since early reports on the 2010 BMW S1000RR suggested that the German superbike was making a claimed 190hp at the crank, the Bavarian bike sounded like a true contender against the Japanese dominated  market. Then when we heard that BMW may have been sandbagging those figures, and bikes were popping up wtih 190hp at the crank, it definitely piqued our interest.

With disbelief we weren’t sure what to make of the new BMW, and it seem we’re in the same boat as the folks over at MotoBlog.it, as they’ve gotten their hands on a S1000RR and put it on a DynoJet to see for themselves what the bike could do. The result? 191hp. Check the video after the jump
