Almost 30 years ago, the Ducati Supermono entered into life, and became an integral part of the motorcycling lexicon. The name has become synonymous with an iconic design, outside-of-the-box engineering, and premier exclusivity.

With that in mind, there has to be something daunting about re-imaging a motorcycle that has become such a focal point amongst motorcycling enthusiasts.

Working out of the Barber Advanced Design Center, Pierre Terblanche has set to doing this very task though, with the public getting their first glimpse of this endeavor today.

True to his reputation, Terblanche’s work on the “Mono” concept is sure to polarize and to intrigue. Let’s dive into it, and try to step into the mind of the maestro.

Part of Kawasaki Motors Ltd.’s new direction as its own business entity, the Japanese motorcycle brand has ambitious goals for its near future, as it has announced plans for motorcycles with electric, hybrid, and even hydrogen drivetrains.

The strategy outlines that Kawasaki will debut 10 electric and hybrid motorcycles by the year 2025. That plan also includes the development of five off-road models that will use “advanced fuel” power plants.

A collaboration between the Nordschleife and MV Agusta sees us today talking about the aptly named MV Agusta Brutale 1000 Nürburgring – the most extreme Brutale 1000 built to date.

This limited edition machine features carbon fiber BST wheels, for better turning and less unsprung weight.

A single-can full titanium Arrow exhaust is also a highlight, and uses a longer primary manifold for higher torque values. A “race” ECU is also included in the package.

American racing legend Nicky Hayden has been inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, as part of its 2021 class of inductees. A nod to his racing number of 69, Hayden is the 269th inductee to the Motorsports Hall of Fame.

In 2018, Hayden was posthumously inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, one of the motorcycling world’s top recognitions, but today’s announcement honors Hayden’s feats from a more mainstream perspective, as the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America recognizes those from the automotive, motorcycling, powerboats, and aviation sports.

What’s in a name? Well, if you are the new Ducati Multistrada V2, there is not much beyond some minor upgrades for the 2022 model year.

The first of the Italian brand’s new models that will debut in the company’s two-and-a-half-month-long teaser series, the 2022 Ducati Multistrada V2 is mostly a name change to keep the “mid-sized” adventure bike conforming to the rest of Ducati’s mid-sized lineup.

When Suzuki released the GSX-S1000GT sport-touring model last week, they left out one key piece of information: what the bike was going to sell for in the United States.

The Japanese brand did the same thing last month with the Suzuki GSX-S1000 sport bike too, leaving us in the dark on what the GSX-R K8-derived machine would cost when it hit US soil.

Now we get word on both of these bikes, and it turns out that Suzuki has been swinging for the fences, giving all the GSX-S models very aggressive pricing for 2022.

Swedish electric motorcycle/moped maker CAKE has just announced the closing of a $60 million funding round, which will help the company scale its production and bolster retail and service locations for the two-wheeled brand.

According to the company’s press release, the fundraising was done via two convertible notes (financial debt instruments that can be turned into equity stakes in the company, at a later time), totaling $14 million and $46 million each.

The bulk of the financing came from Swedish pension fund AMF, while the rest of the funding came from several investors, led by current CAKE shareholders Creandum and Headline.

There has been a lot of death this year in motorcycle racing. At Mugello, Jason Dupasquier crashed and was hit by another rider during qualifying for the Moto3 race, and died in the early hours of the following morning.

At Aragon, during the European Talent Cup race held at a round of the FIM CEV championship, Hugo Millán crashed during the race and was hit by another bike, dying as a result of his injuries.

And yesterday, during the WorldSSP300 race at Jerez, Dean Berta Viñales crashed at Turn 2 and was hit by another rider, dying in hospital a few hours later. Dupasquier was 19, Millán was 14, Viñales 15.

The deaths – three teenagers in the space of less than four months – led to a great deal of introspection in the racing world, and concerns over what should be done to prevent this from happening again.

A lot of people had a lot of ideas, but the thing that strikes me about these deaths is that, as good as some ideas might be, there are no easy answers.

Starting next Thursday, Ducati will be debuting a new motorcycle for the 2022 model year every two weeks.

The releasing event culminates on December 9th, and we already know what bike will capstone Ducati’s new model debut: the Ducati DesertX.

As we can see, Ducati is being less obvious with some of its debuts than others, but with some insight into what the Italian brand has been up to, and which bikes it updated and debuted last year, we can reasonably discern what to expect in the coming weeks.
