In 2004, BMW produced its 500,000th motorcycle equipped with anti-lock brakes. Now five years later, BMW has doubled that number with its one-millionth motorcycle with ABS, a K130oR no-less.

After taking second place the 2009 European Championship Of Custom Bike Building, Sweden’s SE Service immediately brought their radical BMW custom to the race track to see how she goes when not standing still.
The bike’s styling may be too far from the norm for some riders, but at the heart of it is a bevy of technological goodness. Track footage and pictures after the jump.
BMW is recalling a slew of R1200GS motorcycles made between 2006 and 2008 for a faulty seal on the fuel pump control unit housing. Because of this defect, water could penetrate into the control until and either corrode or short the mechanism, resulting in the pump failing, and fuel not reaching the motor. A sudden loss in power like this could result and non-rider induced superman across the tarmac, and the unnecessary involvement of personal injury attorneys….and no one wants that.
BMW has finally gotten around to setting the MSRP on its highly anticipated S1000RR sportbike. Priced in-line to compete with the major Japanese manufacturers, the S1000RR is going for a measly $13,800.
For that price you’ll receive a bike with 193hp at the crank, a dry weight of 404lbs, and a headlight only a mother could love. For an additional $1,000, you can get the S1000RR with ABS brakes, and only sacrifice an additional 5.5lbs of that curb weight.
BMW Motorrad released today that the base MSRP of the S1000RR will cost €15,800, expect the US pricing to be below that (we’re guessing $14,500-ish).
In typical BMW fashion the real fun features will cost more. The BMW Race ABS system will cost €950, while the Race ABS with Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) will cost a combined €1,250. BMW is also offering an electric shifter for €370, and an alarm system for €220.
It looks like BMW is set to launch a supermoto version of the bullet-proof F800R paralell twin later this year.
The machine, which was inspired by BMW’s stunt world champion Christian Pfeiffer, gains a host of goodies over the F800R, including long travel suspension, revised gearing and the obligatory BMW racepaint colour scheme.
No word on price, but were expecting the bike to weigh in near the $12,000 mark.
When BMW set out to build the S1000RR, they wanted to challenge the Japanese manufacturers on their home turf and break out of their established mold, with an inline-four 1000cc superbike contender. The result was a 193hp superbike with traction control and ABS brakes, all in an affordable package (allegedly).
Also a part of this “outside of the box” thinking, was some things we could probably do without. The first of which is that asymmetrical head light. Second, and more to the point, the choice in available colors. After teasing us with pictures of a handsome S1000RR in a red/white/blue paint scheme, BMW debuted the bike in lime green livery, and then showed pictures of the bike in brown and black options. That left us a bit miffed. But luckily we have gotten word that the red/white/blue scheme will be available, but at an additional cost.
BMW has sold over 500,000 GS motorcycles since the models introduction in 1980. In order to celebrate this milestone, the Bavarian motorcycle company is releasing a limited run of 500 special edition R1200GS models. The anniversary bike will feature a front fender extension, black oil-cooler spoiler, tinted windshield, two-tone seat that’s 20mm higher than standard, black rims, and aluminum cylinder head protectors. The Special Edition bike will also feature the first ever white paint scheme on a GS. In Europe the bike will cost €350 more than the standard GS.
No word on US pricing yet, but we do know it will come without the tinted windshield.
