In case you didn’t see this last MotoGP season, you may not have heard of the shenanigans going on in the Repsol Honda garage. With a very unhappy Nicky Hayden, and what has been described as an imaginary wall across the team’s garage, Nicky’s move to Ducati has been a welcomed change.
With most camps being cheeky as to the details that have surrounded the team falling outs, it is interesting to see what outsiders, who may have some more perspective, have to say about the whole thing. MotoGP.com released a short article about Kevin Schwantz’s perspective on Nicky, but left a very telling quote for the end of the article. Click to see what he said.
On January 13th, 2009, the Dakar Rally will for the first time, not involve trekking to Africa. Instead the venue will be held in Argentina and Chile. The change comes after the rally was cancelled last year for the first time since its inception in 1979 due to concerns over security. This coming rally will cover 5600 miles of varying terrain, just like the original rally. 530 teams will take off from Buenos Aires to start their six-day journey, of which there will be 230 motorcycless, 30 quads, 188 cars, and 82 trucks, from 49 nations.
Posh Spice, I mean Victoria Beckham, is about to become the newest member in the motorcycling family. Her now stateside football start husband David “Bend it Like” Beckham bought her lessons to learn how to ride a motorcycle.
According to showbizspy.com a source said, “Victoria has always had a thing about motorbikes. They’re iconic and you can’t help but look cool on one. She always dreamed of riding one but obviously it’s a dangerous and time-consuming hobby. With her career and the kids she never thought to learn until David surprised her with the lessons. She is nervous but looking forward to speeding down the Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu and around the Hollywood Hills in big old boots.”
At least we know she’ll look good in leather.
MotoGP will return to the Brno, Czech Republic until at least 2013, thanks to a recent extension of the current agreement between the circuit’s owners and MotoGP’s owners, Dorna Sports. With this extension, MotoGP visits to Brno are assured for at least the next five years.
Brno date is a popular stop with the MotoGP riders and fans alike, with over 240,000 fans watching the race this year in Brno over the course of the weekend.
We’d like to personally thank all of Eastern Europe for 5 more years of the best umbrella girls.
So….this is the Husqvarna SMQ. It is a whole new type of motorcycle called a “supermoto”. Read after the jump why that statement is slightly off, but doesn’t detract from eye-catchingly strange concept.
There must be something about November and transportation tradeshows. Behold the Toyota Tundra/Ducati Transporter. Now, I own a Toyota, and it hauls my bike to the track just fine. But this concept would make me look WAY cooler, not to mention it would be a far more effective setup. With a motorized loading ramp, integrated tool system, storage space spares, and solar panels mounted on the bed rails to provide auxiliary power (goodbye super loud generators). More after the jump.
We knew it was coming, an “R” version of the RC8. Picture yourself as an Austrian motorcycle company. You’re sitting at a strandbar in Vienna, falling in love with a blonde girl named Theresea, and it hits you! No, its not love. At least not the love between a man and a woman. No, this is the love of a man and a motorcycle dream. The need to take the throbbing v-twin heart the resides in only a few select riders, and inject it with even that much more lust of an already wicked set of sex on wheels.
The DB7, in typical Bimota fashion, is a work of art built around a solid power plant. So how does a small boutique firm improve upon the design? They make the bike completely out of carbon fiber. That’s how, more after the break.
BMW has released its LoRider concept today at the EICMA show in Milan. Billing it as the expression of freedom, independence, and a move away from the everyday routine, BMW is hoping to capitalize on the emotion of standing out from the crowd by owning a motorcycle…and then owning a motorcycle unlike those around you.
Along with the line of 2009 motorcycles presented at EICMA, Ducati CEO, Gabriele Del Torchio gave the world a glimpse of the new company logo.
It is an evolution of the historic brand name, which now includes a new red shield featuring a graphic symbol alongside the classic Ducati script, making this motorcycling logo even more eye-catching and unique and communicating passion, competition and performance.
To accompany the launch of this new logo, Ducati has produced a video to highlight its distinguishing features – including the fun and passion that have always been part of the Ducati spirit.
What’s Italian for “Holy Crap! It looks like we know what we’re doing!”?
UPDATE: Info on the Troy Bayliss Limited Edition
But wait! There’s more! There’s a reason that the Streetfighter will get the Superbike’s 1098 mills…it is because the Superbike line no longer needs them! Ducati will be bumping the rest of the Superbike line (the 1098R has already made the engine displacement jump) to the newly decided upon 1198cc displacement for the World Superbike regulations. More after the jump.
