For the motorcycle industry, 2021 is turning into a banner year, as motorcycle sales are booming across all segments. So, it shouldn’t surprise us too much to hear of record sales and standout quarters from motorcycle sales reports.
Here’s an interesting one for you though: Ducati sold more motorcycles in the first nine months of 2021 than it did in all of 2020 (which was 48,042 units).
Now granted, 2020 was an abysmal year for selling motorcycles, but even compared to 2019’s figures, the Italian brand is firing on all of its desmodromic valves.
Selling 49,693 motorcycles by the end of Q3 2021, Ducati sales are up 25% compared to the same time period in 2021. This makes Q3 2021 the best third-quarter for Ducati, ever.
“Ducati closed the first nine months of the year with sales volumes that are already higher than the full year 2020, both for the bikes and for after-sales products like clothing, accessories and spare parts,” said Francesco Milicia, Ducati VP Global Sales and After Sales.
“The growth we are experiencing is practically widespread on all the main markets in which Ducati is present and extends across the product families. We are very satisfied with the results obtained: the community of Ducatisti is growing all over the world and the most influential magazines in the motorcycling sector are awarding important prizes to Ducati bikes.”

The brand is now more solid and appreciated than ever and we are already focusing on next year. In fact, in these weeks, we are presenting to the world the new products for the coming year, through the web series Ducati World Première 2022.”
Lookin at Ducati’s sales by region, the biggest market for motorcycles delivered remains Italy (7,954), followed by the United States (7,475) and Germany (5,627).
Leading the sales charge has been the Ducati Multistrada V4, which we rated very highly in our review. Following that, the Scrambler 800 lineup is the next top seller, which in turn is followed by the Streetfighter V4 and Monster.
We would expect Ducati to continue this momentum into the 2022 model year, partially because of the strength of the motorcycle industry going forward, but also because of strong expectations for the company’s soon-to-be-released machines, which include a Streetfighter V2, “Pikes Peak” Multistrada V4, and DesertX adventure bike.
