Up-Close with the MV Agusta Rush 1000

The MV Agusta Rush 1000 was a surprise for us in several ways, at the EICMA show in Milan. For starters, the machine arrived the Monday night before the opening of the trade show, and after MV Agusta had already announced its 2020 models.

But then there is also the bike itself, which is styled to be extremely provocative. It is clear, when you are a small design-focused manufacturer that is used to selling limited edition motorcycles, you can find it easier to take risks.

Whether you love or hate the MV Agusta Rush 1000 (I happen to quite like the machine), you have to give the Varese brand its credit – they have no problem taking chances.

What is interesting to me about this motorcycle is that the Rush 1000 represents a quick turnaround by MV Agusta to start building custom bike spin-offs on the Brutale 1000 RR motorcycle, which itself debuted at EICMA this year.

If the Brutale 1000 holds the classic lines that we have come to expect from the MV Agusta brand, then the Rush 1000 is what happens when those expectations are dropped, and fantasies are allowed to run wild.

We see that MV Agusta is recycling its round LED headlight, which first appeared on the RVS #1 model, and the addition of the carbon fiber wheel cover can hardly be missed on the single-sided swingarm.

It is the tail section that perhaps is the biggest departure though for the Italian brand, with the carbon fiber bodywork and LED tail light looking more like a rocketship alight than a motorcycle…and we suspect that’s the point.

With pricing set at €34,000 for the European market, the Rush 1000 is only €4,000 more than the Brutale 1000 RR, which isn’t that much of a premium when you consider the kind of motorcyclist that can afford a €30,000+ bike.

The question is though, given the choice between the MV Agusta Rush 1000 and the MV Agusta Brutale 1000 RR, which one would you chose?
