The Yamaha Ténéré 700 has become a popular choice amongst dirt-focused ADV riders, especially those shopping in the middleweight ADV category, but the Tuning Fork brand is surely feeling the pressure as that segment continues to heat-up.

So, it is not surprise then to see Yamaha toying with a more capable, more up-spec, and more expensive variant to the Yamaha Ténéré 700 ADV machine, to help fend off the entries from other brands.

This is where the 2022 Yamaha Ténéré 700 Raid Prototype comes into play, and it just broke cover at the 2021 EICMA show in Milan, Italy.

The Yamaha Ténéré 700 just debuted for the US market a matter of weeks ago, and already the Tuning Fork brand has a new edition of this middleweight ADV bike for our consumption.

The new model is called the Yamaha Ténéré 700 Rally Edition, and as the name implies, it is a more off-road ready variant of the Ténéré 700 motorcycle.

Before you get too bent out of shape about having to wait even longer for another Ténéré 700 model, the Rally Edition is mostly a parts bin bike, with Yamaha kitting a number of its aftermarket parts to the machine, along with a killer blue and yellow “speedblock” paint job.

The long, long wait is almost over. The 2021 Yamaha Ténéré 700 finally has an arrival date for the United States, and that date is very soon indeed.

If you are one of the many that has been waiting for the Yamaha Ténéré 700, then you will be happy to know that the affordable ADV bike slated to hit US dealerships on the first week of June (that’s next week!).

The bike we never thought would make it to the United States is getting closer to actually landing on American soil, and today we have even more good news about the Yamaha Ténéré 700.

This is because Yamaha Motor USA has just shared with us pricing for the 2021 Yamaha Ténéré 700, and the Japanese brand has nailed things on the head with their $9,999 MSRP for this middleweight adventure-tourer.

European pricing for the Yamaha Ténéré 700 has finally hit, and while the United States still have over a year of waiting for when this mid-sized ADV bike will hit our soil, the price details gives us an indication of what to expect from Yamaha’s “T7” motorcycle.

Depending on what country of the European Union we are talking about, pricing for the Yamaha Ténéré 700 is set in the mid 9000s. For example in Italy, the Yamaha Ténéré 700 is priced at €9,490.

It has been a very long time since we last recorded a Two Enthusiasts Podcast show for you, but Episode 86 is out in the wild now, and in it we discuss all the new bikes that debuted at the EICMA show in Milan.

Next up on our analysis of the EICMA show in Milan are the Japanese brands: Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha.

You can usually count on the Big Four to bring out some popular new bike launches and intriguing concepts to EICMA, and this year…well…the Japanese brands phoned it in, for the most part.

Before we get into Jensen’s complete feeling of disappointment, I first have to apologize because I failed you as a publisher. Much of the disappointment that comes from the INTERMOT and EICMA shows comes from the implications of the Euro5 emissions standards. As a publication, we should have prepared you  better for this reality, and we didn’t.

There is very little incentive right now for a motorcycle OEM to release a new model. Euro5 comes online for new models in 2020, and for existing models in 2021, which means that many of the motorcycle brands are holding onto their new bike launches for those model years.

As such, the 2019 model year is very much a “development year” for the industry. This doesn’t change the fact that the Japanese brands had a weak showing in Milan, especially compared to the Europeans, but at least it explains why…for the most part.

We have been waiting a very long time for the Yamaha Ténéré 700, with the machine first debuting as a concept in 2016. A no-show at the 2017 EICMA show, the Yamaha T7 concept instead went on a worldwide promotional tour.

So, surely we thought that the 2018 EICMA show would announce the Yamaha Ténéré 700 as ready to go…yes and no. The Yamaha Ténéré 700 is finally coming as a production motorcycle…but not quite yet.

Expected as a Fall 2019 model in Europe, off-roaders eager for a middleweight adventure-touring bike will have to wait another year. If you happen to live on this side of the pond however, we have even worse news for you.

The Yamaha Ténéré 700 will be a 2021 model year machine in the USA, debuting in the second-half of 2020, making this perhaps the most disappointing new model release at the Milan trade show.

The 2017 EICMA show has come and gone, and with it our glimpse at the new motorcycles that will arrive for the next model year, and beyond. EICMA week has always been my Super Bowl, as it culminates the year’s work, and also sets the tone for the upcoming riding season.

Beyond just my limited world though, EICMA sets the trends and the expectations of the motorcycle industry. There is no trade show in our two-wheeled microcosm that has a larger influence than EICMA.

So, while all the new models that we just saw are the week’s big headlines, it is really the trends and movements that will dictate the future of the motorcycle industry.

For this round of the EICMA show, three major trends presented themselves in Milan, along with a few more notable occurrences. Don’t worry, I’ll break them down for you, though it might take a while.
