Estoril Replaces Misano on the 2020 WorldSBK Calendar

The 2020 WorldSBK calendar has been given another reshuffle. After the Argentina round was dropped for 2020 last week, this week, the race at Misano has been removed from the calendar, to be replaced by a race at the Estoril circuit in Portugal.

With the removal of Argentina, it made no sense to hold the Misano round on its originally scheduled date in November, but it seems that other factors, such as money and the danger of another flare up of the coronavirus, may have played a roll.

Instead, the Estoril circuit, near the Portuguese capital Lisbon, has been placed on the calendar, with a round to be held from 16th-18th of October.

This Year’s Suzuka 8-Hours Has Been Canceled

One of our favorite events each year, the Suzuka 8-Hours is perhaps one of the most important races on the motorcycle calendar, as the Japanese brands jockey to prove who is the best on their home turf.

However, the legendary Japanese race is not immune to the global situation relating to the outbreak of the coronavirus, and from that we saw its original July race date moved  to the beginning of November.

Now with new concerns, the endurance race and finale of the FIM Endurance World Championship calendar has been unfortunately canceled altogether.

MotoGP Will Finish Its Season in Portugal at Portimão

When MotoGP announced that it was adding a 15th round to its 2020 calendar, it was not exactly the best-kept secret in the MotoGP paddock that the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão would get the nod.

Today, that news becomes official, with the Portuguese GP set to take place November 20th to 22nd.

Of course, in  a season that has seen a bevy of cancelations and postponements because of the coronavirus outbreak, any race schedule has to be taken with a modest amount of uncertainty and skepticism.

The MotoGP Paddock Gets Its First Case of COVID-19

The MotoGP paddock has its first confirmed case of COVID-19.

A cameraman, employed by Dorna but assigned to work with the French broadcaster Canal+ tested positive for the disease during a routine test taken during the Brno round of MotoGP, in preparation for the Austrian race at Spielberg next weekend.

Fortunately, the cameraman has no symptoms of the disease at the moment.

The 2020 MotoGP Calendar Updated Once Again – Argentina, Thailand, & Malaysia Canceled – Portimao Added?

The COVID-19 pandemic has once again reshaped the 2020 MotoGP calendar, though this change had long been expected.

Today, Dorna and the FIM announced that the three races outside Europe still on the calendar – in Argentina, Malaysia, and Thailand – have all been canceled. Taking their place at the end of the season is one extra race, officially unspecified as yet.

Assen, Donington Park, & Qatar Dropped from WorldSBK Calendar

As the restart of the 2020 WorldSBK Championship draws near, Dorna and the FIM have issued an updated calendar.

In the previous version of the calendar, the British, Dutch, and Qatar rounds of the WorldSBK series were listed as to be determined.

These three races, at Doningon Park, Assen, and the Losail International Circuit, have now been canceled due to the organizational headaches created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Austin MotoGP Round Has Been Canceled for 2020

The Grand Prix of the Americas, which had been moved to November 13-15th because of the coronavirus outbreak, has now been canceled.

The news comes from the track’s Instagram account, which states that the Austin round will return in 2021, on April 16-18th.

The cancelation of this year’s American round is of little surprise, as the COVID-19 situation in the United States grows more dire with each passing day, especially in Texas.

EICMA Trade Show Canceled for 2020

Just 10 days ago, we had to bring you the sad news that the INTERMOT show in Cologna, Germany would not be held in 2020, with the show’s organizers looking to 2022 to resume the trade show’s biannual schedule.

With INTERMOT arguably the second-most important trade show for the motorcycle industry, eyes then moved to Milan, to see if the EICMA trade show would follow suit, and today we have our answer.

Because of COVID-19 concerns, and perhaps due to a mild mutiny from participating brands, the EICMA trade show in Italy has announced that this year’s edition would be canceled, with aims to resume in 2021.

2020 WorldSBK Calendar Updated with 6 to 11 Rounds Possible

After last week’s MotoGP calendar, this week sees the release of another schedule. Today, the FIM published the provisional calendar for the WorldSBK series for the rest of this year, and also announced some big changes to the schedule of the weekend.

It is a very provisional calendar. Six rounds are confirmed – insofar as anything can be confirmed during the pandemic, as they are subject to cancellation or change should governments impose new restrictions – with four rounds in Spain, one in Portugal, and one in France.

Two rounds are still subject to confirmation, at San Juan Villicum in Argentina, and at Misano in Italy. There are three further rounds on the schedule without a date. A round in the UK at Donington Park, the Dutch round at Assen, and a race at Qatar.
