If you were planning on attending the INTERMOT show in Cologne, Germany this year, well…we have some bad news for you.

The German show has just been canceled amongst concerns about public safety due to the coronavirus, meaning its next installment will come in 2022, as the show runs every two years.

Originally set for its usual October hosting, the organizers for INTERMOT are exploring their ability to pivot to a digital format of sorts, though one has to wonder the practicality in that, considering large brands already have the resources to host their own virtual unveilings and experiences.

The second-most important motorcycle trade show in the world, INTERMOT was always in doubt for this year because of the coronavirus outbreadk, especially when it became clear that BMW Motorrad and KTM would not be attending.

With INTERMOT running every-other year, and the trade show circuit rapidly shifting in its ability to offer a valuable platform to brands, one has to wonder if the German show will be still relevant by the time it finally gets to host an event 27 months from now.

The EICMA show in Milan – the largest trade show in the industry – is under similar constraints as INTERMOT, and it remains to be seen if its November date will be canceled as well. Stay tuned for more information on that.
