Certain owners of the Aprilia RS 660 and the Aprilia Tuono 660 should expect a notification soon that their motorcycles are up for recall, which will see the Italian brand swapping out their engines for new ones.

In total, less than 100 motorcycles will be affected by the recall when it comes out, with Aprilia targeting certain VIN ranges for the two models of motorcycle with the 660cc parallel-twin engine.

This bad mammer-jammer right here is coming to a race track near you…if you live in Italy, that is. It is the Aprilia Racing RS 660 Trofeo, and it is the middleweight-twin cup bike from Aprilia Racing.

Built around the Aprilia RS 660 street bike (obviously), the Trofeo version is a track-only machine from the racing department in Noale, and it means business.

Built with support from Italian brands like SC-Project, Pirelli, Brembo, and Andreani, the Aprilia Racing RS 660 Trofeo is another stepping stone in Aprilia’s racing lineup to develop young riding talent.

Ever since 2018 when A&R first caught wind of the Aprilia RS 660, we knew this twin-cylinder sport bike was going to be a class killer.

Up until its introduction, the middleweight twins segment has been full of either outdated legacy machines, or bikes that serve a price point above all else.

There is nothing wrong with that per se, but it left the door open for a brand like Aprilia to come in and mix things up with a cutting edge motorcycle.

That is where we are today with the Aprilia RS 660, with its high-power, high-revving parallel-twin engine, its advanced electronics, and its track-tuned chassis.

It has been a long wait for this eagerly anticipated motorcycle, and last week the American motorcycle press got their first miles on this middleweight-twin.

Riding the canyon roads near Santa Barbara, we put the Aprilia RS 660 through its paces on some of the best roads California has to offer (in this author’s opinion, at least), to see how this unique creation from Noale stacked up.

Would it live up to the hype? Is this the new twins class killer? Does Aprilia have another opus on its hands? That is what we aim to explain to you in this review.

Another bike on our list of “must-rides” for 2020, we are about to swing a leg over the Aprilia RS 660. This middleweight-twin has been a long time coming, especially in its full-fairing aesthetic.

On the spec sheet, the Aprilia RS 660 looks set to upend the segment, but of course the proof is in the pudding on how this parallel-twin motor runs, how its twin-spar aluminum chassis handles, and how refined its APRC electronics package truly is on the open road.

Last week, we got news that the Aprilia RS 660 would cost €11,050 in the European market, which gave us some idea on what to expecting for pricing in North America…or so we thought.

In our analysis, we figured on a price tag in the low $12,000 range, but now Aprilia has proven us very wrong.
