Moto2: Toni Elias Banned from Friday Practice

Toni Elias was banned from Free Practice 1 today at the Czech GP because he and his team, Gresini Racing, violated rules concerning when teams can test during the summer break. Holding a quick testing session at the Misano Circuit, Gresini and Elias were found to have broken the rules concerning testing, and were levied a €3,000 fine and banned from participating in today’s one-hour practice session. Gresini Racing opted not to appeal the ruling, saying they had not read the rules carefully enough regarding testing sessions. Whoops!

Elias isn’t appealing the judgment either, and is likely just happy that he was not docked any Championship points, as the Spanish rider currently is leading the Moto2 Championship by 42 points. Gresini and Elias will be back in action on Saturday, and will have to chance down Fonsi Nieto & Karel Abraham.

  • Rules can make a difference. Good racers know the rules. Great racers know the judges. (Or something like that).

  • Or a calculated decision. Toni knows Brno really well, taking third last year. Toni has struggled at Misano. €3000 is chicken feed, especially to a Moto2 team run by Fausto.

    hmmm. :)

I say “calculated risk” as well ;)

That top fairing looks disturbingly desmosedici-ish to my eyes.
