Unfortunate news for road racing fans, as we get word that Bruce Anstey will miss this year’s Isle of Man TT (and likely the rest of the 2018 road racing season), because of multiple tumors found on his lungs, as well as a tumor on his spine.
The news came on social media, with Anstey’s partner, Ann Ramsey, posting to Facebook the news of the cancer’s return, and what it meant for Bruce’s racing season. She said that Anstey also had “a blood clot on the lung just to kick him while his [sic] down.”
Anstey was slated to ride with the Mugen Team, on the Shinden Nana electric superbike, as well as with the Padgetts Honda team in the superbike and supersport classes.
Anstey is no stranger to cancer, having survived testicular cancer back in the 1990s.
Now with the news that he once again has cancer, his treatment will surely be aggressive, as testicular cancer often metastasizes in the lungs and the lymph nodes along the neck, chest, and pelvis.
The news has seen an out-pouring of support, most notable from Anstey’s often teammate and friend, John McGuinness, who has had health problems of his own as of late.
McGuinness wrote on Twitter that Anstey was “the most naturally gifted riders on the planet” and that “you wouldn’t meet a nicer guy!”

Naturally at this time, it is not clear what Anstey’s treatment schedule will mean, and when he will be back to racing and adding to his 12 TT race win tally.
His absense, as well as the possibility that the 2018 Isle of Man TT will also be without John McGuinness and Ian Hutchinson, both of who are having issues with in their recoveries, which means that this year’s TT could be missing some of its biggest stars.
We wish Bruce the best of luck with his treatment, and hope to see him fully recovered soon.
