After first seeing the TTXGP and then FIM e-Power race series lower their maximum bike weights to 250kg, thus barring the 266kg SWIGZ race bike from competing, Chip Yates and his SWIGZ.COM race team seem to be making the best out of a bad situation, and have announced that they will compete in the WERA Pirelli Sportsman Heavyweight Twins Superbike class race being held at California Speedway on January 9, 2011.

Promoting an advanced KERS system, Yates has been touting his 194hp electric race bike as being comparable to gasoline-powered supersport machines, and now he will have the opportunity to prove that point on the track. With performance parity to internal combustion engine such an important issue with electric motorcycles, SWIGZ is the first team to take on the old guard head-on, with this first race being the first public working exhibition of the SWIGZ KERS design.

John Ulrich, the man behind both Team Hammer and publication Roadracing World, seems to be content on airing his dirty laundry about rider John Hopkins on the WERA board this week. In his postings, Ulrich accuses Hopkins of keeping secret his hand’s deteriorated condition, and misrepresenting his physical fitness and readiness for the 2010 season. This issue has lead to Ulrich saying he won’t work with Hopkins ever again, despite Ulrich discovering the Anglo-American rider at a young age, and essentially jump-starting his motorcycle racing career. If true, these acts and omissions could amount to fraud and misrepresentation on Hopkins’ part.

In the calendar circles (yes apparently these groups exist), receiving the Pirelli Calendar is a sort of holy grail. Intended for friends and VIPs of the tire company, Pirelli employs elite fashion photographers and models for its annual, mixing the shine and gloss of high fashion with with dirt and grime motorsports, with a few naked women thrown in for good measure. Going with a Greco-Roman theme for 2011, Pirelli has tapped Karl Lagerfeld to shoot the calendar, with actress Julianne Moore playing the role of Hera. In total there are 21 models (16 female, 5 male) in 36 photos throughout the calendar’s pages. Because we know A&R readers are really into Greek mythology, a full cast list and some safe for work images are after the jump.
