A2 License Compliant Kawasaki Z900 Released in Europe

The popular Kawasaki Z900 continues to get the attention of the folks at Team Green, first with the teasing of the Kawasaki Z900RS vintage street bike model, and now for our European readers, an A2 version of the Z900 is available for beginning riders.

This means that for the 2018 model year, a 70kW (93hp) version of the Kawasaki Z900 will be available to A2 license holders, and Kawasaki has gone to great lengths to make sure it keeps the looks and character of its full-power sibling.

The A2-license Z900 motorbike can also be detuned to the 35kW requirement level, via an ECU flash made by Kawasaki dealers, should a rider’s license warrant the power decrease (European riders have a complex tiered license scheme).

Kawasaki has made an effort to keep the A2 license version of the Kawasaki Z900 visually the same as its 123hp sibling (there is no “A2” badging on lettering on the motorcycle).

The A2 model also shares key technical features with its full-license counterpart, like a 948cc displacement, slipper clutch and tuned airbox assembly.

We imagine that this variant of the Kawasaki Z900 will be popular with A2 license holders, as it builds off the already popular Z900 platform and doesn’t scream “learner bike” to the unsuspecting public.

We wonder though, how long it will take a crafty person to unlock the full 123hp potential of the four-cylinder engine…
