John McGuinness Explains a Lap Around the Isle of Man TT IOMTT 2012 08 635x456

John McGuinness, pictured here with brolly girl Bruce Anstey, is the undisputed King of the Mountain, having won 19 times on the Isle of Man TT Mountain Course. Even at 40-years-old and a bit thicker around the middle than his fellow racers, one would have a hard time arguing that McGuinness is not at the top of his game, as the man from Morecambe is well on his way to beating Joey Dunlop’s all-time TT race win record.

So how has McPint become the winningest living TT racer in history? With a massive amount of course knowledge, that’s how. Coupled to strong bike entries, and a team comprised of road racing’s top talent, it makes perfect sense why McGuinness is the favorite to win whenever a 1,000cc machine is involved, and you can’t count him out of the 600cc Supersport races either. Narrowly missing his chance to break the 20 race win barrier on an electric bike, McGuinness was also instrumental in the cancellation of the Senior TT at the 2012 Isle of Man TT, a race he likely would have won.

McGuinness and his team will be back next year though, as will his competitors who are eager to knock the King off his thrown. We imagine a few of them will be paying close attention to the course notes given in the video after the jump.

Grammar Jerk Alert: “off his throne” not ” of his thrown”

  2. Herpadurp says:

Fantastic Motorbike pilot he is. Shame the prizes dont include a dental plan.

  3. PD says:

Anybody with a link to a HD onboard video of McGuiness on a race lap (not non-HD, not practice lap)? Like the onboard footage shown in the clip in this post, but of the entire lap uninterrupted? Thanks.

  4. SBPilot says:

@ Herpadurp HAHAHA! Man I’m not the only one that every time I see McGuiness I think “stereotypical English teeth” and that he should get that fixed, at least whitened!

  5. mike says:

What a bunch of saddos. You spend 5 minutes in the company of a god and all you can do is witter on about teeth? I despair…

  6. SBPilot says:

Sorry mike, we’re not in his company right now, it’s a bloody video. My opinion on his teeth has no effect on my high regard for his talent of a racer. We all know he’s the king of the mountain. I also disagree with Rossi’s beard he tends to leave more often than not these days, does that make me the ultimate saddo? Get real.

  7. PD says:

Jensen, I hope you will dedicate a post to a link of the following video. I was quite blown away by substantially most of it. The beginning especially is just stirring. (I know nothing about/of the video poster, so obviously have zero affiliation with him.)

  8. SCBonneville says:

Hey Beeler… “brolly girl Antsey”… really??

9 TT victories says he has more balls than you have brains…

  9. Get a life bud, even nine-time TT winner Bruce Anstey thought it was funny to be holding McPint’s umbrella on the starting queue for the TT Zero this year.

That’s what is so great about the TT, the racers know how to have a good time, and aren’t overly concerned with the size of their balls.

My apologies, without knowing what the context is/was, it is very easy to take the "brolly girl" comment as a backhanded slap to Anstey… While John is admittedly the KOM… I don't think Bruce takes a back seat to anyone either…
