How to Watch the Suzuka 8-Hour Endurance Race

UPDATE: Sorry folks, look like race day coverage is live-timing only.

I was trying to think this week how to frame how important the Suzuka 8-Hour Endurance Race is for Japanese motorcycle enthusiasts and Japanese motorcycle manufacturers. It’s certainly more prestigious than any single MotoGP or WSBK round, and I would hazard that it is as big of a deal to the Japanese as the Isle of Man TT is to the Manx.

A race known for seeing factory teams stacked with the top riders from around the world, this year’s Suzuka 8-Hours sees some of Japan’s finest joined by the likes of Kevin Schwantz, Jonathan Rea, Randy de Puniet, Josh Brookes, and Josh Waters. It can be hard to follow the race in Japan though, but we’ve got you covered for this year’s event.

The Suzuka Circuit puts up a live stream of the racing sessions on Ustream, and the link is right here. There is also an official Twitter feed in English which you should follow. We have embedded the Ustream into this post as well…because the internet is awesome.

Absolutely awesome!! Thanks for the streaming link.
I am watching the night free practice session as I type this.

I should be able to catch FP5 and Superpole, and at least part of the race tomorrow. Looking forward to it. Thanks!

    Thanks for the link!

I wish Honda could get Marquez to race the 8 hr.

It looks like the times in the post are track local time. The race begins in 2.5 hours.

  • Unfortunately, the link is only offering live timing. It doesn’t seem to give a video/audio feed of the racing. Damn shame, that. I guess I’ll go to the beach instead. <3

For what it's worth, there's a rain delay. The race will start at 11:45 local time. (About 12 min. from now.)

Sacramento Mile is going on right now too.

  • Further race delay due to thunderstorm. Thankfully, I found it on BS12 (local TV).

Just what I wanted to see…. live timing……

    FCC Crashed? :(

  • Yes, but Akiyoshi got the bike back to the pits and Zanetti is out after a lengthy repair. Currently, FCC TSR is running P11.

@tranefrancks for as many screenshots and updates as I can muster. #suzuka8hours

    OK what did I do?
Never got anything but timing and scoring.
Got some practice video the first day but nothing after that.
Tuned in at all the appropriate times using PDT and Japan time and even checked in for the posted rain delays… nothing.

Two weeks till MotoGP, a month till Formula 1, and timing screen for Suzuka 8 hours. I can feel the motor racing withdrawal symptoms kicking in now. Boo. :-(

  • The race sure was worth watching. Tons of drama, with no fewer than 4 safety cars. Akiyoshi’s ride back to the pits was nothing less than an epic gesture to the team, as he did so with a broken leg. FCC TSR Honda wound up finishing 40th, falling progressively backward after restarting in P11.

RdP did Yoshimura Suzuki proud and their squad ended up P2. Domi Aegerter saw P3 on his rookie ride. Leon Haslam and Michael van der Mark both got to enjoy P1.

Michael van der Mark nailed the fastest lap of the race, kicking ass and taking names along the way. His second stint saw the fastest lap on L141. Unreal. Broc Parkes also showed well, making a great pass in Spoon Curve on lap 87.

Memorable race. EWC is a lifetime in a few hours.

    Thanks for the update, Trane.

Anyone know where you can find highlights?
