More Details about the Ducati V4 Granturismo Engine

In two days, Ducati will officially unveil the V4 engine that will power its new Multistrada V4, which means that the Italian brand is currently in the midst of an extensive media campaign on the new motorcycle.

Today, we learned the name of this new motor; the Ducati V4 Granturismo engine, which is interesting in its own right, as it shows a departure from the “Desmosedici Stradale” nomenclature that powers the Panigale V4 and Streetfighter V4 motorcycles.

With this Granturismo name, Ducati is surely trying to highlight the differences that this motor brings to the table, namely its 170hp peak power figure, 60,000 km (37,282 miles) valve service intervals, and lightweight design (compared to the Testastretta 11° DS engine).


With one more “theorem” to be shown tomorrow, and the official release coming a day later on October 15th, we won’t have too long to learn everything we want to know about this four-cylinder engine, but today’s news does give us some room for some last-minute speculation.

With the change in name, is there more to this V4 Granturismo Engine than we think? Given that Ducati seems intent on releasing an on-road model and an off-road Enduro model with the V4 motor, there are some unique challenges that come with that proposition.

Could the V4 Granturismo Engine be a more unique engine, compared to the Desmosedici Stradale motor that we assumed would be in these bikes? Or, is it mostly just marketing hype? We shall know the answer soon.
