The big news from Suzuki at the 2021 EICMA show might not be considered the biggest news event today, but the Japanese brand has sharpened the edge of its Katana street bike, and that pleases us.
Accordingly, the 2022 Suzuki Katana gets a modest horsepower increase to 150hp (up from a previous 147hp), and a good overhaul on its electronics suite.
The additional power comes from tuning for the Euro5 homologation, with Suzuki finding more torque across a broader range, in the process.
Changes to the motor include a new intake and exhaust camshaft, new valve springs, new exhaust, and a new airbox
The motor also benefits from a new slipper clutch, and a new ride-by-wire throttle. An up/down quickshifter has also been added to the electronics offering.
Suzuki has also made some changes to its Suzuki Drive Mode Selector system, which controls the user-selectable engine maps. All three maps produce the same horsepower, but alter how progressive that power comes on with the turn of the throttle.
The 2022 Suzuki Katana uses the same twin-spar aluminum frame and GSX-R-derived swingarm, with fully adjustable KYB front forks, and a rear shock with preload and rebound adjustability.
Brembo calipers work on 310mm front discs, mounted to six-spoke cast aluminum wheels.
The changes aren’t massive, but they do help the 2022 Suzuki Katana compete better in what is a very cut-throat segment of the motorcycle industry.
If the retro-style of the new Katana speaks to you (it does to us), then the bike surely just got more appealing for the 2022 model year.
Two colorways are available, the dark matte blue you see above, as well as the standard dark grey, which has red wheels.
Suzuki says that we can expect the updated Katana in Spring 2022, but that’s European info. Keep your ears tuned for American pricing and availability.
