American Honda is bringing an electric dirt bike to market for kids, but it is not quite what you think. The CRF-E2 is actually designed and built by Greenger Powersports, which is in turn licensing the “CRF” designation from American Honda.
Despite the bike not coming from the Japanese factory, the CRF-E2 (note the lack of a “Honda” name in that title) will be sold through Honda’s dealerships in the United States.
With 3.4hp (2.5 kW) of peak power, a two-hour ride time, and a 2.5-hour charge time with the optional quick charger, the CRF-E2 is aimed at young new riders as an entry point into dirt riding. The MSRP is set at $2,950 in the USA.
On the more technical side of things, the CRF-E2 using a 48-volt system, with a brushless DC motor that makes 18.4 lbs•ft of torque.
The lithium-ion battery stores 960 Wh of energy, weighs only 13 lbs, and can be swapped out in a matter of seconds for a fresh pack (an optional accessory).
The whole bike weighs 106 lbs, and features a twin-spar aluminum frame, front and rear hydraulic disc brakes, and 12″ wheels with Kenda Millville K771 knobby tires.
The suspension components 33 mm telescopic forks and a DNM shock, which has adjustable preload and rebound damping. Front and rear-wheel travel are 3.9 and 8.3 inches, respectively.
With two power levels, the CRF-E2 is designed to be a graduated approach to a full-size dirt bike, and competes with the more powerful, but pricier, Husqvarna EE 5.
