With every bike from the three GP classes out on the Circuit de Comunitat Valenciana, the sight was one that had to be seen in person to be truly appreciated. Lead by former-World Champion Kevin Schwantz, who rode Marco Simoncelli’s San Carlos Honda Gresini RC212V race bike, MotoGP, Moto2, & 125GP riders made their way around the 14 turns of the Spanish track, stopping short of the finish line. Watching two minutes of Valencian fireworks, MotoGP riders stood with the Simoncelli family, honoring the loved Italian one more time.

The entire event was somber, and as the fireworks subsided, the clamorous noise was contrasted with an eerie silence on the track and in pit lane. Riders walked back to the paddock with solemn & grim faces, barely saying a word to each other, if saying any words at all. Similarly, team members carried rear stands and walked race bikes back to pit lane in complete silence, perhaps reflecting on Marco one more time. Thirty minutes later, noise returned to Valencia, as the final 125GP race ever commenced.

A sort of timely press release for our more laid-back Friday edition, we’ve gotten word that Team Electric Motorsport is looking for a jockey rider for the team’s upcoming TTXGP race at Infineon Raceway being held May 14th-16th. Electric Motorsport isn’t looking for just any rider though, they specify that only racers who are shorter than 5’10” and under 160lbs should apply for the gig as the team has strict power-to-weight ratio concerns.

The headlines don’t get much weirder than what you just read. Shot to death last Thursday, Puerto Rican rider David Morales Colón is having a rather unique memorial of his life. The 22-year-old rider has been embalmed by the Marin Funeral Home in San Juan, which has a reputation for creative embalming presentations. In Colón’s case this means being dressed and put in a riding position on-top of his race replica Repsol Honda. Video after the jump.

Usually when you see a video of lovely lady standing next to a motorcycle at an FIM sanctioned event, she’s holding an umbrella. Well the FIM is hoping to change that perception a bit, and is serving up this video with its resident supermodels ladies of motorcycling talking about what they do best. Featuring Leslie Porterfield (FIM World LSR Holder), Livia Lancelot (FIM Women’s Motocross World Champion) and Laia Sanz (FIM Women’s Trial World Champion), the video is a part of the new FIM campaign called “Women Ride” that hopes to encourage more femme fatal in our two-wheeled sport.
