For those who haven’t noticed, Riders for Health is our go-to charity here at Asphalt & Rubber, and in case you’re not familiar with Riders (that’s what the hip kids call it), the organization is a registered not-for-profit charity that was started by Andrea and Barry Coleman, along with some guy named Randy Mamola, and provides critical health care services to millions of people in Africa — all on the back of a motorcycle (health care workers on motorcycles can reach six-times as many people as their counterparts in SUVs and cars, booyah).
Also, the official charity of the MotoGP Championship, the two big fundraisers for Riders for Health are the Day of Champions, which is held on the Thursday before the British GP, and the Day of Stars, which is held on the Thursday before the US GP. Whereas the Day of Champions is a massive event held at the Silverstone Circuit that is attended by thousands of two-wheeled enthusiasts, the Day of Stars is a smaller, more intimate, affair that is open to only 50 lucky participants.
A chance to spend time with current GP riders and past GP legends, you really won’t get a better racing experience ahead of the Laguna Seca round (don’t miss the auction too, where you can buy all sorts of rider gear and memorabilia). We highly recommend signing up for the event if you are in town ahead of the Laguna Seca round. A full press release with all the details is after the jump.
Riders for Health – the official charity of MotoGP™ – and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California, have announced an exclusive opportunity for 50 lucky people to spend a day meeting the stars of MotoGP™, touring the MotoGP™ paddock and pit garages, and discovering beautiful Carmel Valley.
Riders for Health’s Day of Stars 2013 will be held on Thursday, July 18, before the Red Bull US Grand Prix weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. As well as getting their race weekend off to the best possible start, participants will be raising money to help deliver vital health services to communities in rural Africa.
This incredible day-long event will be hosted by American grand prix legend and co-founder of Riders for Health, Randy Mamola. Randy will guide the group through an informative and entertaining insider’s perspective of the world of MotoGP™.
With only 50 tickets available, Day of Stars is an exclusive and intimate event. Tickets always sell out early, so be sure you don’t miss out. Secure your ticket by calling 904-419-9433 and place your order with credit card or check. You may also order tickets online at www.mazdaraceway.com or via Paypal by visiting dayofstars.org. Tickets for Day of Stars cost $500, of which $375 is a tax-deductible donation to Riders for Health.
Day of Stars begins with a continental breakfast at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s Turn Four VIP suites, followed by a scenic motorcycle tour of picturesque Carmel Valley. Guests will then return to the VIP suites for a catered lunch before taking a private tour down pit lane with 13-time grand prix winner, Randy Mamola. After the tour, the group will take to the track for parade laps of the famous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca circuit. The day then concludes with special interviews with MotoGP™ riders, team managers, and special guests during a live public auction to benefit Riders for Health.
In past years, Day of Stars guests have met MotoGP™ legends Kenny Roberts, Eddie Lawson, Wayne Rainey, and Loris Capirossi, as well as current MotoGP™ stars Valentino Rossi, Nicky Hayden, Colin Edwards, Ben Spies, Alvaro Bautista, Tony Elias, Randy dePuniet, and Cal Crutchlow.
Members of the public will also have an opportunity to hear from the riders and to bid on unique MotoGP™ memorabilia during a free admittance charity auction at the end of the day.
Day of Stars is a benefit event for Riders for Health, an international non-profit organization that mobilizes health workers in Africa with reliable motorcycles so that they can reach rural communities with essential health care. Learn more about Riders for Health at www.riders.org.
Support from the motorcycle community in the USA helps Riders for Health to save lives. Each year, supporters at motorcycling events across the world raise hundreds-of-thousands of dollars for Riders, helping them to provide crucial access to health care for millions of people across Africa.
