Triumph Reports Best Quarter Ever in North America

Triumph Motorcycles America is reporting a record setting first quarter, which also included that highest single-day of retails sales ever (March 31st).

Because of this, triumph says that in the 500cc+ on-road & dual-sport categoies the British marque is the top-selling European brand in North America.

Although triumph isn’t talking concrete figures, the company does say that sales for Q1 2015 were up 16% over last year’s numbers.

The brand does say that this most recent quarter’s sales success marks the 13th such quarter, out of the past four years (16 quarters), which year-over-year growth.

“The positive sales trend is only possible through the commitment of our retailer network,” said Matt Sheahan, COO of Triumph Motorcycles America. “The most recent quarter nearly doubles the units sold compared to just four years ago for the same quarter.”

What is not clear is if Triumph’s sales figures reflect units sold to customers, instead of units sold to dealers.

Loyal A&R readers will remember that previous Triumph CEO Greg Heichelbech was ousted from his position amidst heavy talk from dealers about channel-stuffing (forcing dealerships to buy motorcycle for which their is no market demand).

In a time when European brands are reporting record quarters and financial gains, the European motorcycle dealerships have been struggling to stay afloat, with a large number on the verge of bankruptcy, according to our sources.

We will have to wait and see what kind of momentum Triumph can keep as the year progresses. Hopefully we will see some exciting bikes from Hinckly at this year’s EICMA show, as the company’s line is starting to show its age.
