The folks at Motus have been hard at work since we last brought you news of their progress in July, and have posted some photos of their progress on the MST-01 sport-tourer to the company’s Facebook page. Showing off its trellis frame and V4 pushrod motor, the Motus MST-01 is filling out nicely, and is sporting Öhlins suspension and what looks like a Two Brothers co-branded exhaust system.

At the heart of the MST-01 is the KMV4 engine, a 1645cc gasoline direct-injection V4 that will make at least 140hp according to Motus. As we told you back in September of last year, Motus will also be making a more powerful version of the MST-01, dubbed the Motus MST-R, which reportedly could make substantially more “umpf” over its base counterpart.     I really can’t believe they are building a “touring” bike with a chain drive. I think they are putting too much on the V4 engine and not enough on what it takes to make a true touring bike. Maybe they should take a good look at the new BMW 1600.

    Yeah the chain might be iffy, but I’m still mighty excited about seeing one in the flesh. Just call it a sport-tourer instead!

    Chains these days are awesome. 40k with oiling every 3k miles is normal and better than my friend’s manage from their BMW’s final drives… From a marketing standpoint a shafty might be smarter, from a practical standpoint the weight, cost and performance penalty isn’t worth it imho (and I do 1k+ mile days and 10k+ mile trips).

    Re the hp/cc, that’s a meaningless metric if you aren’t racing in a cc limit class. What matters is power/torque for a given weight and packaging. Low-rpm pushrod motors will never be very good on hp/cc, but they can be quite good on hp/lbs as we’ve seen with the LS series cage motors.

    Finally re a performance version, BLOWER!

    Tom – what do you think of the torque?

    Chain? – there seems to be a lot of negatives on this subject from shaft-drive riders. When was the last time one of those riders took a long trip on a bike with a new chain?

    What’s the release date on this puppy? It seems like it has been in the development phase for a while now.

    Motus is hoping to release the bike fall next year. I’m hopingthe date holds firm as I have my deposit in for the MST-R model. Certainly much will depend on the asthetics of the bodywork but I do like what I have seen so far.

    I don’t see the torque numbers but it’ll be powerful. No doubt about that. It’ll be a great powercruiser to hoon and I hope they succeed where EH and even Indian have failed. But, 1600cc and only that much power is not impressive if they try to pretend to be a sportbike.

    MST-01? Very similar to Yamaha’s MTS-01, don’t you think? It’s even a pretty similar style.
