WSBK: Race 1 at Imola Takes the World Superbike Championship Up Another Level

Racing went off without a hitch this Sunday, as the Imola circuit seemed devoid of earlier traction problems that almost sidelined the racing earlier this week. With Imola sitting literally in Ducati’s backyard, all eyes were on the Xerox Ducati squad, and Noriyuki Haga.

Haga, who trails Ben Spies for the first time this season coming into Imola, was especially keen on grabbing back some points from the American. Lastly, a new addition to the WSBK paddock took the form of Marco Simoncelli, who was filling in on the factory Aprilia team for the injured Shinya Nakano. Aprilia Focusing on WSBK for 2010

If you have any hopes of seeing Aprilia in the upcoming Moto2 series, you may have to be get over them if early reports are to be believed. While official word is expected later this August, it would appear that Aprilia will not develop a custom chassis and compete in the Moto2 series, which is scheduled to replace the 250GP next year.

Jorge “Aspar” Martinez had been linked to the team earlier as possibly being on board with the Italian company to continue his involvement in the middle-tier GP series. This rumor now seems to be denied, as there has been no movement in the Aprilia camp towards developing a chassis around the Honda CBR 600cc powerplant the new series is slated to use.

The first chicane of the Monza circuit is notorious for accidents and hated by all racers because it tightens into a dangerous and tight funnel. Race 1 of the World Superbike Championship at Monza would not be spared of the dangers of the first chicane as a terrifying accident brought the race to an almost immediate halt with five riders seriously involved. Max Biaggi To Be A Father

Max Biaggi’s longtime girlfriend and former Miss Italy, Eleonora Pedron, is expecting to have the couple’s first child later this September. The couple revealed the news to Italian weekly magazine “A”during an interview:

“As soon as we knew that Ele was pregnant we told her mother, her brother Nicola, my father, my sister and my nephew. We don’t like to exploit our private lives to attract attention to our jobs, infact after this interview we won’t give any others. It doesn’t matter, boy or girl, as long as it’s healthy. Because it’s going to have a brother or sister later on.”

The Roman Emperor doesn’t seem to concerned about getting married anytime soon. When asked about it, he responded, “Marriage? It’s not a priority, I’d like things to go on as they are even if it’s not out of the question. Five or six years ago I never thought of a kid and now…”
