Neil Hodgson Retires From Racing

After a crashin during a practice session at Brands Hatch re-injured Neil Hodgson’s shoulder, the former WSBK (2003) and BSB (2000) Champion announced his retirement from racing today in a press release. In his crash, Hodgson injured his shoulder, which had been previously injured during a motocross training accident (road racers after cross-train in the dirt) here in the US. After undergoing testing on the shoulder for the past three weeks, it’s become clear that the injury will require Hodgson to retire from racing after a 20 year career.

Norton NRV700 in the Works – 210HP Rotary by 2011

We were disappointed last summer when the Norton NRV588 didn’t take a lap at speed around the Isle of Man circuit during the TT, but that didn’t stop the British racing team from clocking 178mph on the salt flats. It looks like Norton Racing has taken the data they’ve learned from the NRV588 and plan to refine the machine into a 700cc race-spec motorcycle that’s an evolution of the current 588cc pocket rocket. Altough Norton plays it coy on their website, rumor has it that they’re reportedly eying the British Superbike series and maybe even a World Superbike comeback within the next three years.

BMW Adds Satellite Team to WSBK

After a successful inaugural season in the World Superbike Championship, BMW is looking to let some other riders, besides Troy Corser and Ruben Xaus, have some fun on the S1000RR. With two teams set to carry the BMW flag in the IDM Superbike series (German equivalent of AMA Superbike), a two-man team in British Superbike, and rumors of an AMA Superbike bid, BMW seems to be franchising better than a Pappa John’s Pizza.

And now according to Swiss publication Speedweek helping BMW make a bigger push into WSBK is the news that German team Reitwagen Racing will run a S1000RR as WSBK satellite team.

Leon Camier Joins Aprilia World Superbike Team to Ride the RSV4 at Magny-Cours

With Marco Simoncelli having obligations in Estoril, British Superbike racer, Leon Camier, will be filling in for the injured Shinya Nakano at Magny-Cours this weekend. Camier will get to ride the Aprilia RSV4 Factory alongside Max Biaggi as World Superbike wraps up it season with its second-to-last stop of the year at the French Magny-Cours race track.

A Sigh of Relief for Donington Park

Friday, Donington Park announced two major developments. The first announcement is that Donington Park has passed FIM inspection, just ahead of this month’s WSBK stop, and next month’s MotoGP stop at the historic British track.

The second announcement is that DVLL, the track operator which leases the premises from landowner Tom Wheatcroft, has settled on , thus insuring the continued use of the track for motoring events.

Donington at Risk to Losing MotoGP, WSBK And BSB In 2009?

Trouble has surrounded Donington Park since in began redesigning the track to make it suitable for Formula One. First, the track had to reschedule and postpone a number of events after complaints about the construction. Then the run off area between Macleans and Coppice was severely compromised when the new paddock access tunnel was being built. Now, Donington seems to have legal trouble brewing as the owner of the track, Tom Wheatcroft, has started proceedings against Donington Ventures Leisure Limited for unpaid rent.

Shakey Byrne’s BSB Ducati For Sale

Shane “Shakey” Byrne’s 1098R is up for sale. That’s right, if you’ve got £80,000 you can own one of the Ducati’s that won the 2008 British Superbike Series. An outfit called GSE Racing has put Byrne’s race bike up for sale alongside two of Leon Camier’s bikes. In addition to these bikes, a spares package of £150,000 is also up for grabs, and the first £350,000 takes it all. It’s really almost everything you need to start your own BSB bid….minus Shakey himself of course.
