Yamaha Motor USA is recalling 8,281 motorcycles for an issue that sees the VIN printed on the Federal Certification label mismatching what is stamped into the frame, which violates the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, “Certification” in the vehicle code.

The problem occurs on the Yamaha YZF-R3 (2019-2021), Yamaha MT-03 (2020), and Yamaha XMAX scooter (2019-2020).

To remedy the issue, Yamaha will notify affected owners, and Yamaha dealers will install a correct certification label, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin February 16, 2021.

Concerned Yamaha owners may contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926. Yamaha’s number for this recall is 990144. As always, the NHTSA is also available at 1-888-327-4236 and safercar.gov.
