There is bad news if you have one of a handful of small-displacement motorcycle models sold by Honda, as 3,898 units are being recalled for issues with their gearbox.
The recall affects certain 2019 Honda CB300R, as well as 2018 Honda CBR300R, Honda CRF250L, Honda CRF250L Rally, and 2018-2019 Honda Rebel (CMX300) motorcycles.
The issues stems from the circlip on the transmission’s main shaft, which may detach allowing for gear misalignment.
A misaligned gear can shift the transmission from neutral into gear during engine start, potentially resulting in unexpected motorcycles movement, or seize the transmission and rear wheel while the motorcycles is in motion.
Since both conditions increase the risk of a crash and/or injury, this recall was initiated.
To remedy the issue, American Honda will notify affected owners, and Honda dealers will replace the transmission main shaft, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin June 28, 2019.
