The Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 just got its first recall, which affects all 2,689 units that have been sold in the USA so far.
The recall pertains to the Pan America’s seat base, which may not be fastened properly, and as a result, it could cause the handhold portion of the base to fracture.
Harley-Davidson’s field data suggested this condition was most likely a result of the motorcyclist applying upward load on saddle’s handhold while deploying the center stand.
According to recall documents, variations in manufacturing the seat base (part number 47200713), has resulted in certain parts that are less capable to resist an upward load in the threaded insert locations.
If the seat base loses retention, the hand-hold feature may become loose. A rider or passenger may be able to detect this condition while engaging the center stand or pulling the hand-hold feature upwards before the vehicle is in motion
To remedy the issue, Harley-Davidson dealers will replace the seat base, free of charge. Pan America owners are advised to not use the passenger hand-hold feature until the remedy is complete. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 6, 2021.
