Usually, it is the Ducati Diavel family that has issues with its kickstands, but today’s recall focuses on the 2018 lineup of Ducati Multistrada 1260 motorcycles.

As such, Ducati North America is recalling certain 2018 Ducai Multistrada 1260, 1260S, and Pikes Peak motorcycles – 493 units in total – because the side stand may be improperly welded, and potentially could break.

The issue stems from a defect that occurred during the manufacturing process from the kickstand supplier. According to recall documents, an improper weld that joins the tube to the forged part on the top of the stand could affect the reliability of the component.

If the defect occurs, the kickstand could break at the weld that joins the tube to the forged part on the top. As such, the bike could fall down increasing the risk of injury.

To remedy the issue, Ducati North America will notify Multistrada 1260 owners affected by this recall, and Ducati dealers will replace the kickstand, free of charge.

The recall is expected to begin January 2, 2020. Concerned Multistrada owners may contact Ducati customer service at 1-888-391-5446. Ducati’s number for this recall is SRV-RCL-19-004.

As always, the NHTSA is also available at 1-888-327-4236 and safercar.gov.
