Kawasaki is recalling a total of 676 EX650R motorcycles from 2009 and 2010 because of a right rear portion of the lower cowling that is interfering with operation of the rear brake foot pedal. Because of the issues, a rider might not be able to adequately apply braking force to the pedal, which could result in a crash.

Kawasaki dealers will install an updated footrest guard and fairing bracket free of charge. Affected owners can expect the recall to on or before July 19, 2010. Concerned EX owners may contact the Kawasaki consumer services department at 866-802-9381. As always, owners may also contact the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236, or go to safercar.gov.
