Marc Márquez is the 2012 Moto2 World Champion

Congratulations to Marc Márquez for becoming the 2012 Moto2 World Champion today at Phillip Island. After missing the honor last year due to an eye injury, Márquez clinched the title today at the Australian GP in his usual dominant fashion.

With an unnatural ability to maintain his corner speed, Márquez has become infamous in Moto2 for his ability to get fantastic drive out of corners, drafting past his opponents, and slamming the door shut on the following turn. An aggressive rider on the track, it will be interesting to see how the young Spaniard fares next year in MotoGP, as Márquez is set to join Dani Pedrosa at the Repsol Honda factory MotoGP team for the next two seasons.

While the learning curve will be huge, many well-educated members of the GP paddock tip Márquez as being the sport’s next Rossi. After his performance this year in the 2012 Moto2 Championship, they may well be right. Congrats again Marc!
