What a great set of photos! I CAN NOT wait for Sunday! But what the heck is the 5th photo?
Thanks! The fifth photo shows the new brake lever protector required by the 2012 rules. It’s intended to prevent accidents caused by a rider’s brake lever being applied due to contact with another rider.
I hope Great Battle in 2012 & no more lethal accidents.
@nakdgrl and Scott Jones,
Are you sure that the 5th picture is a required piece? Looking at the other bikes and you notice that none of them are using them. That piece to me looks like the guards that Rizoma makes for bikes as a LEVER PROTECTOR in case of a crash, not as an accidental brake application preventative. I could be wrong though. Either way, great shots! Love the Rossi pic.
Yes, it’s required. Too many incidents in Moto2 lead to it being applied across all the GP classes. It’s on the front brake lever only (right-hand side of the bike), and you can see them on all the bikes in these shots (7th & 8th shot have them readily apparent as well).
The units are indeed Rizomas, but if you think they’re going to protect anything in a crash, I’ve got a bridge I’d like to sell you. They stop an object in front of the bike from pushing the brake lever back, which can happen when rubbin’ becomes racin’.
