MotoGP: First Shots of Rossi Back on the Yamaha YZR-M1

Here’s one for the Rossi fans, the first photo of Valentino Rossi on-board the 1,000cc Yamaha YZR-M1 at the Valencia test (snagged by Monster Yamaha Tech 3 mechanic Steve Blackburn).

Apparently, the weather is being less than co-operative in Spain, with sprinkles of rain being reported, but that didn’t stop The Doctor from getting on-board “his” bike.

After the jump, there are 17 photos of Rossi’s maiden voyage back on the Yamaha YZR-M1 — all courtesy of photographer extraordinaire, Scott Jones.

    WOW! *somersault :D

  • FernandoARG

    Booyakasha! Welcome back dottore!

  • smiler

It looks like a road bike. Currently 8 secs off the pace, so perhaps it is.

  • Johan

Test livery on both bikes looks a lot better than the “Race Blu” contraption

It’s not “his” bike anymore – it’s Lorenzo’s. I can’t wait to see how he’ll cope with that fact that (for the first time in his MotoGP career) he will not lead the development of the machine he’s riding. So, yeah, I do see Lorenzo being constantly in front of him.

@Johan: It’ll change, worry not. I’m sure Rossi has brought a hefty amount of sponsors with him to adorn those fairings.

welcome back doctor…it’s time we need a new challenger for the front liner…

  • William

He is 8 seconds off of pace due to not doing any flying laps. He was just doing photo ops. Nothing could be learned by going race pace in those conditions.

  • JohnEE

That helmet and leather combo is awesome…..want.

  • jon jon

Let’s see what he can do now that he is back on Yamaha. I want to see if he can regain the respect of his fans; I’m tired of the relentless complaints on how Ducati hasn’t done enough for him.

  • MikeD

I was going to say. The Moon thing looks “refreshing” if anything.

Man, i can feel the PEER PRESSURE of all the eyes locked on him and his future performance. Good luck, im sure ur going to need it…even if u are the Dr.

The pic that says it all is the one with the Duc crew watching as VR rolls by.

  • loki

@Johan: yea, I’m sure they already regret him. [irony]

I love Rossi but it is a reflection on the state of motogp when someone who failed even to win a race in the last 2 years on a bike that had previously won a world chmpionship gets back on his “old bike”, is 8 secs off the pace and this is the biggest story from motogp…….
Lets hope, Dovi, Marquez and others can stir the soul of motogp more.

  • Damo

    “8 secs off the pace”

Would people stop with the nonsense, he didn’t complete any flying laps. Hence the lack of pace. Why all the Rossi hate?

I guess Marquez and Smith were infinitely off pace because they didn’t run a lap, by you logic.

  • bob

Well thank goodness he’s out of that fugly mcdonalds-looking red and yellow color scheme….

  • MikeD

    ROTFLMAO. That thing was HIDEOUS.

  • FernandoARG

    McDonalds looking thing @Bob, lmao!

  • smiler

wow now we are talking about Rossi’s team fashion sense. Did not even bother to go out today. Must be confident.
Hope it goes well though because the racing will certainly improve.

  • Jensen Beeler

Rossi didn’t go out today because of weather, not confidence.
