Aprilia was in Milan today, unveiling its 2012 World Superbike team with Max Biaggi and Eugene Laverty. For this season, Aprilia Racing is outfitting its RSV4 race bikes with the company’s classic black & red livery, a break from the white Alitalia paint scheme from last year. Unable to defend his #1 plate, the 40-year-old Max Biaggi will return to racing with his “3” on the front of his RSV4.

Eager to regain World Superbike’s top position, Biaggi’s toughest competition could come from his own teammate. His second season in World Superbike, Laverty has shown a great deal of promise already on the Aprilia. Keep your eye on the Irishman for some podiums in 2012.     Two different bikes in these pictures and I don’t mean Max & Eugene’s bikes. There are different spec forks, what’s the deal with that?

    What do you see that is different? All I notice is the linear transducer use for data acquisition purposes to help with nailing the tuning. That comes off for the race.

    1) Take one Aprilia RSV4 with a WSBK-spec motor
    2) Buy one roll of duct tape
    3) Apply duct tape to frame.
    4) Call the bike a racing prototype
    5) Laugh all the way to the bank

    I wonder if the 364 lb quoted weight is dry. Even if it is, the curb weight of the RSV4R APRC is 464 lb. I realize that these bikes are modified to the point that they don’t have much in common with the street bike in the end but still, a 100 lb weight loss! That’s nearly the equivalent of a Max Biaggi! Wish they could translate that racing experience into lightening up the streetbike just a little.

    Anyways, love the bike. Really feeling the colorscheme. And we’ll see how they do in MotoGP, too… not that Aprilia is backing the team or anything… no chance of that…
