2012 Ducati Desmosedici GP12

Unveiled online today, here are the first pictures of the 2012 Ducati Desmosedici GP12. Unsurprisingly using a twin-spar aluminum frame, instead of the carbon fiber chassis found on the GP11, perhaps the biggest change for fans who have been following the GP12’s development is the new tri-colore paint scheme, which is visually very similar to the design of the Ducati 1199 Panigale Tricolore.

Getting hip to this whole internet fad, Ducati Corse made its 2012 season launch live on Facebook, hosted by team sponsor TIM. With 96,000 fans connected to the video stream, it’s arguably the most public launch of a Desmosedici to date, and the subject of social media was a hot topic for the unveilings Q&A session (including some insight into Nicky Hayden’s accidental leaking of the Ducati Streetfighter 848). We’ve got a bunch of hi-res studio shots after the jump, along with some photos from the live unveiling.

FINALLY! i dont see Willie G.’s mug when i sign on!

  • Jake

The Desmo GP7 and GP8 were considerably better looking than this. I’m not a fan of the snub nose and fat ass.

  • Jake

Then again, so long as it goes like stink all is forgiven.

More shameless hoopla. Ducati better hope Rossi can pull off a miracle with this new incarnation or they’re going to regret all of the money they’ve spent on the Emperor’s new clothing.

I’m just glad there’s no Rossi neon green (besides the 46) clashing with the red.

    it’s not a Ducati… :-(

  • F1

good stuff,, better than last year for sure. But I can’t see how much longer Marlboro is going to put up this kind of coin without even a shadow and bar code on a bike that, objectively speaking, won’t come within 10 seconds of a podium.

  • BBQdog

I wanna see nudy picts of this Duc.

  • Rexr

The Desmo use to be a stunning bike but WTF have they done to it……

  • misterminor

very clean “sponsor bikes”.. can’t even find a “58” on Rossi’s bike. Let’s hope it’ll do well. Both riders deserves it.

  • RJ

There’s some neon Japanese writing on the side of Rossi’s seat unit. Apparently it says “No Hard Feelings About Last Year Japan!”

Think the best Desmo thus far was the ’10, with the solid deep, dark, metallic red.

This red (as well for the ’11) is just too lacking in substance, and the wide white band does not help. I do like the addition of the green however, particularly when in combination with Vale’s yellow.

Not that I want to support Altria or its ilk in any way, but I don’t quite get that there’s really no visible indication whatsoever of Marlboro’s sponsorship on the bike. If you didn’t know of the sponsorship, there would be no way that you could discern it by looking at the bike. How would Marlboro be OK with this? But then again, in the big picture, this is a good thing.

@RJ: Apparently, your Japanese sucks. It says, “Good luck, Rossi-fumi!”

  • APATHETICSIGHT

They managed to make a bike uglier than last year!!!! Lime green, yellow aend orangish red with the ugliest tail section since the suzuki hayabusa!!!!!! and they copied many things from the 1199 tricolor. LAME!!!Im chering for honda (Casey) and yamaha (Ben) again this year.

  • APATHETICSIGHT

    garbage bike!!!!!!!!

  • Beary

Ah welcome the new Ducatiha. Or is that Yamacati ?

  • Tony

i thought they could only improve on the terrible paint job on the gp11 bike, i was wrong.

  • bram

Desmosedici in Stoner era is the best…

  • RJ

@Trane Francks: Apparently, your ability to tell what is sarcasm sucks too.
