Come Watch the KTM Super Duke 1290 R Do Its Thang 2014 ktm super duke 1290 r 12

Nine months ago, KTM unleashed “The Beast” on the unsuspecting roadways. Devouring turns, chewing tires, and lofting wheelies ever since, The Beast has become the new KTM Super Duke 1290 R — or at least that’s what the marketing folk in Austria would like to have us say for the bike’s genesis story.

At 177hp, 417 lbs dry, aggressively styled, and fitted with ABS and traction, the 2014 KTM Super Duke 1290 R is a potent street-hooning machine, and if the response to its debut earlier this week is any indication, you are going to enjoy the video we have after the jump. So what are you waiting for? Click through already!

  1. Rico says:

So I can expect somewhere between 1/3 & 1/4 of the power in the 390 Duke!

  2. ross ewich says:

sadly, with all the capabilities of this bike- 99% of what the owners will be doing with it is summed up at 1:48.

  3. Je_Co says:

I dont see the problem with this @ross ewich … This is the ultimate hot rod bike, its the Cadillac CTS-V wagon of the motorcycle world. Thank you KTM for producing a bike no one really needs but everyone wishes was in their garage. Now put the concept exhaust back on it.

  4. smiler says:

Was the first part of that, the paddock and track at Indianapolis?

Concept exhaust and wheels. Job done.

  5. Dave says:

I have to hand it to KTM for doing a great job of promoting this bike, but what made me slap a deposit down for one was reading the spec sheet and discovering that the dry weight was listed as being less than my KTM 990 SMR. So this thing is probably going to be crazy fast but also handle well. No doubt the traction control will get used a lot with this bike. KTM Austria, if you are reading this, please do not make us in the USA wait forever to get this bike! We have seen the videos. We get it! We want it! Don’t do another round of psycho-torture on us by making us wait a year while most of the rest of the world is riding the new model, like with the new 1190 Adventures!!

  6. L2C says:

    Where’s Ken Block?

  7. BBQdog says:

Just returned from a little ride with my Duke 390, definitely don’t need a SuperDuke on the backroads.

  8. james h says:

this video reminds me of why i traded my 990 SD for a sportster!!! yes, i know that its the rider more than the bike, but some bikes accommodate insanity better than others….which is good.

  9. Jimboecv says:

    Need? No.
    Want? Yes. Badly.
My 950SM looks like a slow turd now.

  10. Dave says:

Have started calling my 990 SMR “The Grom”:)

  11. John John says:

    How much, how much.
    Or maybe that doesn’t matter.
i can see any new owner pulling into their sheds liken to a F1 pit crew. Straight in, exhaust and licence plate hanger change and then tear back out again to get a new back tyre, like a Boss!

    i have terminal trouser stretch………..

  12. MikeD says:

THIS . . . THIS IS WHAT WIN LOOKS LIKE when you Google it !

MOAR , GIVE US MOAR ! Too short, i want to hear more of it going WOT inside the tunnel !

    +1 @ Je_Co and all of the 1290 Supporters !

  13. MeatyBeard says:

One bike to rule them all.

  14. Matt Higgins says:

That is one bad bike/video! Good job on both!
