We may have spoiled Christmas last month, as our predictions for the 2013 Ducati 1199 Panigale R appear to be spot on as we get news from Ducati’s 2013 model year press launch at EICMA.

As expected, the highlights to the 2013 Ducati 1199 Panigale R are the inclusions of titanium con-rods, a lightened flywheel, DLC-coated rocker-arms, a four-point adjustable swingarm pivot-point, a 500 rpm rev boost, and a bit more power (courtesy of a full-system race exhaust and ECU).

While the “R” spec Panigale officially makes the same power as the other models, the race exhaust included with the purchase of the machine is good for a few more ponies up top, giving the Ducati 1199 Panigale R a 201hp top figure, a modest 6% gain up top, but also a 15% increase in the midrange.

Like all Panigales, the Ducati 1199 Panigale R has ABS, ride-by-wire throttle control, traction control, engine braking control, and features all the amenities on the “S” spec model, like the DDA+ data logging system.

At 416 lbs wet, the 2013 Ducati 1199 Panigale R is the lightest superbike in Bologna’s fleet, which includes the 2013 Ducati Superbike 848 EVO Corse SE, which is 430 lbs.

Despite its class-leading maximum power and minimal weight, we imagine there are still going to be some Ducatisti who were expecting more from Ducati’s flagship homologation special.

The consolation to that sentiment is the pricing on the Ducati 1199 Panigale R, which is set at a “reasonable” $29,995 in the US market.

What? No Strada version with luggage? I thought Ducati wasn’t going to make an R version so I’m excited to see this Wild Thing. Now we just have to wait for a head to head with an HP4. Looking forward to seeing Carlos ripping it up in WSBK and hope someone campaigns one in AMA or WERA.

    From http://www.ducati.com
    Superbike 1199 Panigale R – 2013 VS Superbike 1199 Panigale – 2013
    DRY WEIGHT 165kg (364lb) vs 164kg (361.5lb)
    WET WEIGHT 189kg (417lb) vs 188kg(414,5lb)

The 2013 Ducati 1199 Panigale R is the not the lightest, per website comparison…unless ducati.com has incorrect data.

    Fafa,

You shouldn’t expect too specific and detailed info from their website!!! It has always been a bit vague. I’m a Ducati rider and have been from the early 80’s, owning almost every high performance models through years, s o I’m not saying this to bash them. For heavens sake, I say this so they can get a grip. However saying all that, they will need to look closer at what they put out. Here is a good example. In this section about 1199R specs on their website, they claim that they use CF belt covers to reduce the weight. They should know their product better, and the fact that 1199 does not use cam belts. That’s lame!!!!! But I forgive them, since it’s not the motorcycle production segment of Ducati that puts out nonsensical info. Here we go:

    Fafa,

I think that I’ve figured out why “R” is heavier !! That’s because it comes with standard ABS brake system. The lighter weight “S” you were comparing is a none ABS model, so naturally it’s going to be a bit lighter.

  6. Stephano says:

By the way, here is the copied text from their website:

The 1199 Panigale R is enhanced with quality components in carbon fibre which help race performance and allow a reduction in the dry weight of 1.5 kg compared to the S Tricolore version, thus emphasising its racing character: swingarm protection, heel guards, belt covers, ignition switch cover, rear shock absorber cover, front and rear mudguards, and clutch cover protection.

Belt cover????? Let me think!!! What??

I just got the app on my phone, thanks

  9. A 15% increase in midrange power is something that you can really feel in this engine. That midrange bump is definitely practical on a street Ducati, because that’s where you’ll spend most of your time in the rev range when you’re just putting around.

Buy a Monster or Diavel ifyou want to ride around on the street!! This bike is for SERIOUS racers!!!
