What did we learn from the Mandalika test? First of all, we learned that building a circuit is hard, and every aspect of it needs to be carefully monitored. Because using the wrong stones in the aggregate for the asphalt can mean you have to resurface the track just a few weeks before the race is due to be held.

Despite the state of the asphalt, once the track cleaned up – something the riders had to be bullied into to doing, even though it was for their own good – the riders put in a lot of laps, the reward for effort going to Takaaki Nakagami, who racked up a grand total of 91 laps on the final day, or over 390km.

The latest recall from the NHTSA concerns the 2021 Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP motorcycle – and no, it’s not what you think – Big Red’s superbike isn’t getting recalled for its absurdly long name.

Instead, the Fireblade SP is being recalled because the exhaust pipe may overheat, which could lead to the oil cooler pipe melting and possibly rupturing.

This might increase the chance of a crash, injury, or fire, which necessitates today’s recall notice to the affected 311 owners of the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP in the USA.

It feels like a broken record to say that the MotoGP team launches have become a bit anemic in terms of what is being presented, versus what is going to be raced in 2022, but today is a little different.

Launching their 2022 Honda RC213V at the Sepang MotoGP test last weekend, HRC is showing off its new bike, in its “new” colors, ahead of the season-opener at Qatar.

This is because the Japanese manufacturer has big changes underway for the 2022 season, and to see that, you only need to take a quick look at the bike displayed in these photos.

Team presentations tend to be rather turgid affairs. Hours of talk for a few brief moments of enlightenment. Which is why we sit through all those hours of talk, of course, because if you listen carefully and read between the lines, you might learn a thing or two.

Past experience left the MotoGP media looking at the Honda motorsport Q&A with some trepidation. Would it be worth sitting through the long presentations to dig out nuggets of interest?

That calculation changed on Thursday night, when HRC announced that Marc Marquez had been riding a motorcycle again, and would be present at the launch on Friday.

The idea of an adventure scooter is…kind of ridiculous. And yet deep inside, we know you secretly want one. However, the 150cc displacement on the Honda X-ADV can be a tough sell in western markets.

But, what if there was a bigger, more powerful option to getting your dual-sport scooter action on? Enter the 2022 Honda ADV350 scooter, which just debuted at the EICMA show in Milan.

Of course, when we see updates coming to the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade for next year, we can expect a similar treatment of the 2022 Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP (say that three times fast).

Like its sibling, the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP sees its inline-four engine massaged for better mid-range grunt, while maintaining its 214hp (160 kW) peak power figure.
