Garrett Gerloff will stay in WorldSBK for the 2022 season, as the American has signed a one-year extension with Yamaha Motor Europe to race superbikes next season.

The 25-year-old from Texas has made waves in the WorldSBK paddock, showing strong speed on the Yamaha YZF-R1, and a promising future in the category, if not beyond.

One of the names floating around for a promotion into the MotoGP Championship, Gerloff will remain at least a little bit longer in WorldSBK, with the extra year on his contract giving him time to prove his pace against the series top riders (especially Jonathan Rea).

“I’m really excited to have signed this contract with Yamaha to continue with them next year,” said the GRT Yamaha rider.

“I’ve had a great time in Europe over the past year and a half, and I’ve been really happy with the progress I’ve seen within myself, the GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team and the Yamaha R1.”

“We’ve made serious steps forward already this season, allowing us to consistently challenge for the podium, but I know there is more to come.”

“We have been so close to that first win, within touching distance at Donington Park, and with the support of Yamaha and the team, I’m confident we can do it before the season is out.”

With a career high finish of second at Donington Park, Gerloff is hunting for his first WorldSBK win this season, and a strong showing in the opening rounds of 2022 could go a long way for the American’s career. Be sure to keep an eye on him.
