We were surprised to hear that French brand Voxan was going to make an attempt on the FIM land speed record for electric motorcycles (specifically the I.A1.B VII +300kg record).

Last we heard, the Voxan brand was being shut down by parent company Venturi, with the company’s electric cruiser model, the Voxan Wattman, classified as dead on arrival.

Now taking that same platform (though the two motorcycles seem to share nearly no components), Voxan has sprung back to life to try and tackle the outright FIM record for partially streamlined two-wheeled electric motorcycles.

The motorcycle brand Voxan saw new life in 2010, when it was bought by Venturi Automobiles, and transformed into an electric motorcycle company. A pet project of billionaire Gildo Pallanca Pastor, Voxan debuted its first motorcycle, the Voxan Wattman, in 2013. You either loved it, or hated it…we were of the latter opinion.

Production details on the Voxan Wattman were sketchy at the time of the bike’s release, and Pastor has a reputation of not seeing project through to their finish. Therefore, it is not surprising that reports out of France say that Venturi has pulled the plug on Voxan, and the Wattman.

Beleaguered French motorcycle company Voxan has found life after death, and today was acquired by Venturi Automobiles. Backed by an investment group in Monaco, Venturi itself was resurrected back in 2001, but with new cash in-hand the company sees motorcycles as a way to bolster its portfolio.

The French conglomerate has released some interesting plans for its newly acquired motorcycle company, namely that it hopes to have Voxan release a production electric motorcycle in the next three years.
