Ducati has finally released photos and information about the 2014 Ducati 1199 Superleggera — the company’s “super light” limited edition superbike. A halo bike for Borgo Panigale, the new Superleggera slots into Ducati’s lineup above the homologation-purposed Ducati 1199 Panigale R. Only 500 Ducatisti worldwide will have the chance to own a Ducati 1199 Superleggera, and that ownership will mean having a superbike with a dry weight of only 155kg (341.7lbs) — 177kg (390.2lb) at the curb with at least a tank that is 90% full. Ducati officially rates the power at “over 200hp” as the Superleggera revs an extra 500 rpm’s off its modified motor. To make these weight savings, Ducati has used a good portion of the periodic table to find the lightest components possible.

Earlier today we brought you a photo of the parts used to make the Ducati 1199 Panigale R Superleggera, and we ended our thoughts with the knowledge that Ducati would begin teasing the “superlight” superbike this week, likely later today…well, here you go.

The first of many videos planned by the Italian OEM, Ducati’s pitch for the Panigale seems to focus around the use of elements from the periodic table, and how they were implemented to make the company’s lightest superbike ever. With a little change in the music, this could easily be a Breaking Bad intro, no?

Last week Asphalt & Rubber broke the news about the upcoming Ducati 1199 Panigale R Superleggera. An ultra-exclusive limited edition model of the Panigale R superbike, our sources spoke of jaw-dropping figures: 220hp at the crank, and 40 lbs shed from what was already Ducati’s lightest superbike ever.

With only 500 models to be produced, this halo bike from Bologna will be available only to the upper-echelon of Ducati customers, with the Italian brand setting up an online ordering form for the chosen Ducatisti.

With copious amounts of carbon fiber, titanium, and magnesium used in its construction, we reckon the Superleggera has been a hit with everyone who has seen it, which is number that is rapidly growing.
