KTM 1190 Super Duke

Browsing

Spy photos of the KTM 1290 Super Duke are nothing new, and the Austrian company has even gone as far as to tease us with a heavily massaged KTM 1290 Super Duke R prototype at the 2012 EICMA show. With the final version of the superbike-powered streetfighter expected to be decidedly less edgy, the photo brought to us today (one can only guess when it was taken), if anything else, is a reminder to be reluctant our expectations.

The ever elusive “spy” photo, what we have here looks to be a near production prototype of the KTM 1290 Super Duke that has been caught in the wild. Easily the clearest photo we have seen of the road-going bike, it clearly holds KTM’s LC8 motor as well as the same trellis frame found on the “beast” prototype.

KTM is lined-up to release a few new models at the upcoming EICMA show, namely the KTM 390 Duke and the KTM 1190 Super Duke. Both bikes will be naked street machines, though the KTM 390 Duke will feature a 373cc single-cylinder engine, while the KTM 1190 Super Duke will get a de-tuned version of the KTM 1190 RC8 R’s v-twin lump.

Helping promote its new releases, KTM has teased out an audio clip of one of the bike’s exhaust note. Whether to you it sounds like a Super Duke or baby Duke, our sources say it is one mean machine. Listen to this kitten purr after the jump, and leave your guesses in the comments section.

KTM continues to be the harlot of the motorcycle industry, as the Austrian company has again spread its legs open for our ever-growing two-wheeled lust — this time in the form of the 2013 KTM 1190 Super Duke. Some more “spy photo” nonsense, the KTM 1190 Super Duke is seen here in its unfinished prototype form, though we certainly won’t have to wait long before the bike’s official unveiling in a few weeks at INTERMOT.

Expected to get a de-tuned version of the KTM 1190 RC8 R motor, one can likely expect that KTM 1190 Super Duke to share its engine with the already leaked and debuted KTM 1190 Adventure. If that is the case, expect a torquey 147hp machine that should slot in nicely with competitors like the Ducati Streetfighter and Aprilia Tuono V4 R.
