Lone Racer: The Wayne Gardner Documentary

Back when men were men, and GP racing’s crowning event was contested on two-stroke 500cc machines, Wayne Gardner found himself carrying the factory Honda GP team on his NSR 500. This fantastic 1986 documentary, Lone Racer, follows Gardner one year before he won the 500GP Championship, and became the first Australian to win GP racing’s premiere racing class.

The film includes great behind the scenes footage of the Aussie, his fiancée, and his team. So grab a cold beverage, put your feet up, and get ready to spend the rest of your Saturday afternoon watching the 30 minutes of video in this three part series. Videos after the jump.

The Lambretta Scooter from Hell

Lambretta scooters may not be as well known as Vespa is here in the United States, but one quick look at their design, and you will instantly conjure up visions of speeding around Italian streets and sipping coffee. Mild mannered, there isn’t anything too assuming about the Lambretta. That is, unless it has a 2-stroke 250cc KTM motor attached to it.

UPDATE: TSS RS500 2-Stroke Twin Project

One of our first posts on A&R featured the , being built down-under, int he land of Oz. The Aussie’s have an update for us, and the project looks like a runner. The Aprilia chassis has been installed as intended and fired up. It looks like it fits perfectly, and the sound of the bike is simply awesome. Continue reading for video of it running.

Three 2-Stroke Aprilia RSW 500 GP Bikes For Sale

It seems almost fitting that this is the last week of testing for MotoGP before the winter ban sets in, and also that we discover that three Aprilia RSW 500’s (500cc 2-stroke GP bikes) are up for sale. These bikes were ridden by Tetsuya Harada in 1999, and in 2000 with Harada again, along with Jeremy McWilliams. More and pictures after the jump.

TSS RS500GP

I can imagine how the converstion between Wayno and Stevo went (well they are from Far North Queensland). That is Stephen Rothwell and Wayne Wright from The Two-Stroke Shop. It’s safe to say it ended with “Let’s build the bike that should have been”.

They set about getting a 500cc two-stroke built to slip into Apilia’s RS250 frame. The RS250 is an excellent bike. It’s good looking, has great handling and will stop on a dime. But! There’s always a but. In standard trim it’s powered by a Suzuki RGV250 engine. Not that the engine is all that lacking and can still scare most people, this bike with a 500cc 2-stroker now becomes a capable weapon ready to tackle modern 4-stroke sport bikes.
