Start the countdown for MV Agusta’s adventure bike reveal, as the Italian brand has signaled that it will it be debuting, not one but two ADV bikes at EICMA this year.
Starting with its “Lucky Explorer Project” name, and imagery from the Dakar Rally, it is clear that MV Agusta is trying to draw a line to the company’s rally-raid history through the Cagiva brand (something another Italian motorcycle brand does as well).
The livery teased below even heavily resembles what was used on the Lucky Strike Cagiva Elefant all those many years ago, which we have to say is a fetching design, even if it is linked to the tobacco company.
Spy photos of the machine show that it will carry-over extensively the Dakar bike’s aesthetic, and we know from interviews with MV Agusta CEO Timur Sardarov that the bikes will use MV Agusta’s new 950cc three-cylinder engine and be equipped with a 21″ front wheel.
Details from there are anyone’s guess, but we would imagine premium parts, robust electronics, and a price tag to match.
The middleweight ADV segment is red hot right now, and MV Agusta is timing its entry quite well, as there is space in the premium end of the category for them.
How robust will MV Agusta’s ADV offering be? Time will tell, but we think the folks in Varese are going to surprise some people. Keep your eyes peeled during the EICMA show for the full monty on these bikes, it starts November 23rd.
