Zero SR/F & Zero SR/S Recalled for Faulty Brake Light Switch

Zero Motorcycles is recalling 659 units of its SR/F and SR/S electric motorcycles for a front brake light switch that might stop working if it gets wet.

Obviously, if the brake light switch fails, then the rear brake light will not illuminate, which creates a safety hazard for the rider – hence, the recall with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

From the recall documents, we know that the defect on the front brake switch exists on certain 2020 model year SR/F and SR/S motorcycles, built between February 14, 2019 and June 19, 2020.

Additionally, the recall documents state that the affected motorcycles were assembled with a front brake switch manufactured that used improper glue that may allow water intrusion, which can increase the switch resistance over time and potentially lead to the loss of operation of the switch.

To remedy the defect, Zero will notify affected owners, and Zero dealers will the replace the front brake switch, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin November 30, 2020.

Concerned SR/F and SR/S owners may contact Zero customer service at 1-888-841-8085. Zero’s number for this recall is SV-ZMC-021-020. As always, the NHTSA is also available at 1-888-327-4236 and safercar.gov.
