If you have a 2019 or 2020 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R series motorcycle, then this latest recall from Kawasaki is for you.
The issue stems around poor ECU programming on the superbike’s computer, which can cause a backfire during high-engine load and use of the quickshifter.
The backfire can create a big combustion force in the exhaust system, which can lead to the air suction valves melting and/or catching on fire.
According to recall documents, the issue was discovered by Kawasaki Motor Europe, in December of last year. In February 2020, Kawasaki Heavy Industries in Japan confirmed the issue, and that the ECU programming was at fault.
In total, 1,529 units of the superbike are affected by this recall, which includes the ZX-10R, ZX-10R ABS, and ZX-10R KRT models.
To remedy the issue, Kawasaki will notify affected owners, and Kawasaki dealers will reprogram the ECU and inspect the air suction valves and surrounding parts, replacing them as necessary. All repairs will be performed free of charge. This recall is expected to begin June 8, 2020.
