True to tradition, Valentino Rossi debuted another unique helmet design for his home crowd at the San Marino GP in Misano, Italy. Themed to Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here”, Rossi has added the last stanza of the song to his livery as well.

“How I wish, how I wish you were here. We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year, running over the same ground What have we found? The same old fears, wish you were here.”

While we’ll let you decipher the meaning to Rossi’s Pink Floyd reference and how it applies to his time in MotoGP, we have to say that this is one of our favorite designs from Aldo Drudi that Rossi has sported at an Italian round.

So, it should come as no surprise that a┬ábevy of photos are after the jump, for your viewing pleasure — since we know that there are some diehard fans of The Doctor that read the pages of Asphalt & Rubber.

Be forewarned though collectors, we think AGV is going to have a tough time getting the rights to make replicas of this design.

Great looking helmet and meaningful too. It’s a tribute to his departed best friend, SuperSic. We all wish he was here.

    Yes. Beautiful.

Considering the subject matter at hand, there is a profound significance to the album art they used on the back section of the helmet that leaves me with chills.

    A very tasteful tribute, methinks.

I miss 58, one of the most entertaining MOTOGP personalities ever. I still remember when him and Lorenzo were having at it during a press conference. Jorge was unhappy with Marco’s rookie aggressive riding, it was classic Sic. I like how Marco and Rossi were good pals. It was and is forever good for the sport.

I thought ” The Division Bell” would be more a fitting helmet for Rossi.

JW, that press conference is one of my favorites too. Lorenzo warned Sic that he better stop making such risky maneuvers or else… To which Marco said “or else what? I will be arrested?” Everyone at the press conference laughed, even Lorenzo had to chuckle. It was so funny.

  • “So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
    A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
    Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
    Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
    What have we found?
    The same old fears.
    Wish you were here.”

Often on sites you get angry supporters attacking Rossi fans. I also have got abuse in the UK for not supporting Cal Crutchlow. I understand to a level because to the Non-Rossi fan, supporting him looks like a football supporter supporting Man United after they win the trophy. They think that people only support him because he used to win all the time.
I think the above shows why most of us are Rossi fans. Not only is he one of the true greats, the most intergalactic of aliens but also one of the kindest and nicest people in the Paddock. That is why we like Rossi. I am not a Stoner basher but i will say he didnt have the warmth, and thats partly why he never had the levels of support.
Look how much more popular lorenzo is this season. Not because he is wining but intead of wining and doing stupid post race celebrations he has calmed down, did the wonderful work for the down synderome girl, showed his true colours racing against everything at assen. Maybe its an age thing who knows, but i think this helmet is all about what MotoGP should be about.

From the moment I saw this helmet it made my eyes well up. Everything about the content just tugs at me. I’m a huge helmet freak, especially the Rossi replicas and this is the best one I’ve ever seen. It’s not just some flashy design with a cartoon caricature on the back, it actually has meaning. If they make it, I will buy. Of that there is no doubt.

Rossi, oh yeah he is the guy who delivered the death blow to Sic then left him on the track to die. What a nice thought to have a helmet to remember him. What a guy Rossi is.

  • Mofoninja

John, that statement was like a record scratch whilst reading about this tribute.

The ignorance reflected in your trolling comment is only eclipsed by your lack of empathy.

You are in serious need of a hug. Good luck on finding a volunteer.

  • Well executed and appropriate.
