Fluid Ducati Superleggera Concept by Gannet Design

You would be hard-pressed to improve upon the design of the Ducati 1199 Superleggera, as the “superlight” superbike has equal helpings of design and technical beauty.

That hasn’t stopped Ulfert Janssen of Gannet Design though, as the German designer has inked an interesting take on Ducait’s 1199 platform, which he calls the Fluid Ducati Superleggera.

Janssen’s renders have some interesting elements to them, though we suspect that the Ducatisti are already sharpening their pitchforks. What do you think?

A lot of the modern, high powered engines just don’t work well in a naked design. All the extra plumbing, massive radiators and exhaust systems really just kill it. Naked needs simple, where the engine is displayed, raw, with little to nothing obscuring the view. Air cooled Ducatis did this really well, Voxan also had some really nice examples of it.

I just threw up in my mouth a lil

  • Sixty7

    That’s fecking horrible…!!!!

  • Ian John

This Ulfart Janssen fellow, shoot his dog, imprison him and send his mother a sympathy card.
Then take the most aggressive incendiary known to man, Buddha, Jesus, Allah, Yoda, and set the most terrifying fires of hell on that hideous design(s).

Im of to look at pictures of real Ducs and MV’s to clear my palate……..and its breakfast time here in OZ Jensen, not cool man.

  • Lowell

The third design is super cool. The almost horizontal lines of the side panels really give it a sense of motion and speed.

  • Sorry for partying Ian.

  • Rob C.

I think they look cool. So many bikes are starting to look the same these days. It is refreshing to see some one apply new ideas. I do agree with Richard Gozinya, there is elegance in raw simplicity, and that is something that is also lacking in todays bike designs. I guess I would like to see both from manufacturers. Future tech marvels and bare bones no gimmick hot rods!

  • I _LOVE_ hot it looks!

    please stop sketching…..

When you try something different it’s always met with such derision by people who won’t allow for designs that challenge them. I bet those are the same people who crap on designs that look too vanilla or too old.

To simply say something sucks is weak sauce and a waste of time. Point out what you like or don’t like, possibly what you think would fix it, etc. You know, constructive feedback. Who knows, maybe the designer will see your point and incorporate your suggestions.

I think the striated surfaces are interesting; I’d love to see more exploration with that theme. The diamond-shaped side feature clashes a bit with the more organic, sweeping lines, and the intake looks a wee-bit suggestive (“organ”-ic). Maybe the intake could be more diamond-shaped to relate to the side feature.

Kudos to the designer for trying something new and showing the world his efforts. Not everyone is brave enough to do it.

  • God these drawings suck; out of perspective, out of scale, no fluidity in the lines.
If you rendered the figures and they are not clip art — stick to that.

  • Nick

This is considered naked? I would argue it has more plastic real estate than the original 1199? Looks like he tried to make a “theme” bike in homage to the Bugatti Veyron in the first image a la American Chopper. Whereas the Veyron’s exterior design is aerodynamic and crucial to the overall performance of the car, here on the 1199 it is just crucially ugly with no rationale. . Seriously is this a design for American Chopper and they are trying to branch into the sport bike market?

The black bike looks like a confederate Hellcat. The seat looks comfy though, how is the vibration through carbon fiber?

  • Zander

I try not to bash on other people’s hard work, but this is one rendering only Salvador Dali could appreciate.

  • MikeD

NOPE. This looks as atractive as buying a Condo on the Sun. Rather S1000R, SD1290 or R1200R for me . . . but i must say, STILL not as FUGLY as the V4 Tuono. That’s good thing.

Is ok to experiment, try & build new things but if i had the $$$ those concepts and it’s ” would be manufacturer ” for sure wouldn’t see any of it going their way. Nice try, nice try. Keep trying.

Hater Special: Those Super Leggera wheels STILL look like a transplant straight from an old wild west horse wagon. LMAO.

In the immortal words of Arnie: “what the HELL are you?”

  • pooch

Oh and ian’s calling for shooting of a dog, is neither funny, not called for. Pretty offensive actually, so ian, stfu.

  • Paul McM

I am amazed at someone who can take a beautiful motorcycle and re-skin it to look like the entrails of a mollusk: http://universe-review.ca/I10-82-clam.jpg

@Ian — hilarious take on things, but I agree the dog deserves to live. After all, the poor beast is not responsible for his misguided master’s sins. Plus the canine will be needed to poop on the ashes of Ulfert’s monument to ugliness, as a final coup de grâce.

  • Norm G.

ow my eyes, my beautiful eyes…!!!

  • Ian John

    @ pooch

Fair enough, but it did spoil my breakfast this morning.
It was a mere figure of speech to portray my outrage.
    Ok the dog lives.
    My apologies readers.

  • Phil

“Sir……. I think you bike has syphilis!”

  • claudia

    Cafe racer on crack…

  • pooch

    All good, thank you :)

I dio understand your outrage though, looking at this. it kind of reminds me of what happens to William Hurt in the end of the movie ‘Altered States’.

  • Gonzo

UGLY AS SIN!!! He should fit right in at the Hyabusa design board. What’s with that stupid hump interfering with the bars? Now that grey one…that has some potential, but is still ugly.

  • “………That hasn’t stopped Ulfert Janssen of Gannet Design though…””

Someone really should have stopped him!

  • RC2

  • Took the “SEXIEST” bike and made just plain UGLY. Does this designer actually get paid to design cause this looks like dog sh*t.

  • Bluey

    um, how about no.

  • Jake

The 3rd image looks pretty good. The rest are horrific abominations.

  • Hayabrusa

Boy, y’all are just brutal! Yes, it is quite different (and really does need a windscreen), but different does not equal ‘bad’. I think it’s kind of ‘trippy’! Gotta loosen up, fellas – and don’t forget it’s a Kraut doing something to an Italian bike! I’m sure Ulfert wouldn’t be caught dead doing something like this to a Beemer :).

  • MikeD

LMAO. Yes, most of us tend to be on the rude side around here with the sensitivity of a Caveman. LOL.

    On his defense, drawings #3 & #5 look ok-ish . . . but still a far cry from a proper Naked/Standard . . . or was he trying all this time to create a ” Cafe Racer ” ?

  • MikeD

    Forgot to add:

Nice job there with the Logo, Jensen . . . LOL. HAPPY TURKEY DAY EVERYONE !

  • Dave

Reminds me a bit of the Moto Guzzi Centaro..

  • Norm G.

re: “Nice job there with the Logo, Jensen . . . LOL. HAPPY TURKEY DAY EVERYONE !”

oops, actually JB doesn’t even celebrate thanksgiving. he put the turkey logo up in reference to these designs (particularly the 1st). the timing of the American holiday was just coincidence.

  • Brandon L.

I can appreciate the work and time it took to come up with it… but it’s really hard on my eyeballs…

  • Arthurs

I’d be interested to see what it looked like before it went in the crusher.

  • Dave Laneve

No way, top 2 are ugly and just a styling mess. The 3rd pic rendition is better though, and like the steel grey.
