Ducati 989R Desmofighter by Oberdan Bezzi

Last week, we leaked the fact that the Ducati Streetfigther has begun to arrive at US dealers, who are obliged to keep the bike under wraps until its official unveiling. The Streetfighter might be the most anticipated bike this summer, with the Bologna factory finally bringing a naked version of its 1098 Superbike.

Oberdan Bezzi, taking the next logical step in Ducati’s progression, has put pen to paper on what a Desmosedici based streetfighter might look like. The result is menacing, but we’ll wait for the carbon frame version.

Asphalt & Rubber Moves to San Francisco

If you weren’t too busy BBQ’ing it up this past Memorial Day weekend, you may have noticed that things around here at A&R were a little slow. Never fear, the rumors of our death were overly exaggerated.

We apologize for the lack of news as over the course of the weekend, A&R moved from the East Coast to the Left Coast, trekking through 10 of our Nation’s fine states. As of now, Asphalt & Rubber is coming to you live from San Francisco, a city with 3 major tracks and some of the best roads within sticking distance.

With an 11 month riding season, we have a feeling we’ll take well to the California coast, and the many, many roads it has to offer us. Look for us on the PCH and at the Sunday Morning Ride, and be sure to say hi.

Ducati North America Posts Record Sales

Ducati North America boosted its market share across the United States in the first quarter of 2009, with record sales fueled by the Monster and Superbike line of motorcycles.

Ducati now boasts more than 10% of the sport and street bike sales in 20 key U.S. metropolitan markets, with the brand capturing 6% sales across the country.

Mission Motors CEO Interview – Electrification is Coming

Last month we brought you at Isle of Man. KTUV.com has some video footage of the bike on the track and an interview of Forest North, CEO and founder of Mission Motors where he talks about the Mission One and the future for electric motorcycles. Between video clips of the crew working and a cockpit perspective of the track Forest explains that “electrification is coming” and that electric is the future of motorcycling. He mentions electric motorcycles already have a range that fits how most people ride.

Missouri State Legislature Considers Repealing Mandatory Helmet Law

The Missouri State legislature has passed a bill that, if signed, would repeal the state’s mandatory helmet regulation, thus allowing riders over the age of 21 who are traveling on city roads, to do so without a helmet. The passage of this bill is naturally divisive, with advocates of individual liberties and safety experts squarely on opposite sides of the table. Should personal liberty advocates win this debate, the bill would make Missouri 1 of 28 states with such a helmet law on the books.

Moriwaki Moto2 Bike Caught Track Testing

Japanese tuner Moriwaki track tested its at Suzuka, Japan for the first time last week as it prepares to sell kits to racing teams. The tests come just a week before teams have to submit their intent to join the Moto2 series at MotoGP’s stop at Mugello. The MD600 completed 40 shake down laps at the Japanese circuit with rider Shogo Moriwaki at the helm, with initial reports looking good.

Bridgestone Releases Findings on Pedrosa Tire Failure at Motegi

You may remember that a month ago, . While still able to stay in the race, fans watched as the Spainard began slowing down, unable to challenge the Fiat Yamahas any further. Pedrosa would finish 3rd for the day, but some serious questions and concerns were being asked of Bridgestone, the sole tire provider of the series.

Bridgestone has now confirmed that faulty construction of the tire allowed a foreign element to be embedded in the rubber, which later broke out, taking chunks of rubber with it.

MV Agusta Accused of Industrial Espionage by Ducati

Ducati has accused the Managing Director of MV Agusta, Henry D’ Onofrio, of commiting industrial espionage. Namely, the Bologna based Ducati accuses D’Onofrio of violating Ducati trade secrets, unlawful competition, and aggravated robbery against his former employer.

Since May 1st, D’Onofrio has been the Managing Director of MV Agusta, the company’s most senior post since its acquisition by Harley-Davidson. Before this, the 51 year-old Italian was the Corporate General Director of MV Agusta, and previously worked at Ducati as the company’s Chief Financial Officer.

MotoCzysz: 0-120mph in 11 Seconds

Last week we showed you the . That test, and all previous tests that have been done, were conducted with the batteries not installed into the bike. This week we bring you footage of the electric race bike all gussied up and ready to go with its battery packs on-board.

Seeing the bike take a closer shape to its racing form is certainly a sight in of itself, but what intriuged us was how fast this bike can go. In the video linked after the jump we see the bike clearly hit 120mph. It does this in only 11 seconds. Sandbagging us in this video, the E1pc apparently has more, with MotoCyzsz predicting that the bike can do the 0-120mph test in a mere 7 or 8 seconds. More after the jump

McQueen made a living with his starring roles in The Great Escape and Bullitt, but is better known to us for his love of fast bikes, fast cars, and his three ex-wives. So, we can expect to see Pitt in some iconic cars, and on some vintage bike on the 70′ screen.
