Come Drool Over the 200hp Team Classic Suzuki Katana Project

Team Classic Suzuki is known for making some impressive vintage-inspired machines, but today’s example might be the pinnacle of their prowess.

With racing basically non-existent during the early days of COVID, the team found itself with an abundance of time on their hands…and idle hands are the Devil’s workshop.

So, taking an ex-Alstare Racing WorldSBK-spec Suzuki GSX-R1000 from the garage, Team Classic Suzuki created this very attractive (and potent) Katana.

The build is based off a 2008 World Superbike race bike, with the goal of making a monster of a street machine. Since the Katana was the street-ready version of the GSX-R, the formula seemed apparent.

The bike is built around an Alstare WorldSBK frame, with the monster of a motor refreshed by Team Classic Suzuki’s Nathan Colombi, and makes over 200hp at the rear wheel. Alstare headers are part of the package, as well as a Racefit link pipe and end can. The electronics are handled by a Yoshimura EM Pro kit.

Cooling things down are a Suzuki factory radiator and oil cooler, with aluminum water and oil pipes, which help to visually link the bikini fairing to the racing bellypan.

To give the build that Katana rear-end look, there is an oversized swingarm and one-off subframe from Alpha Performance Fabrications, which allow for a twin-shock rear setup from Öhlins.

Öhlins superbike forks complete the suspension package at the front, and hold onto Dymag CH3 mounted with Michelin street rubber. Brembo calipers, discs, and pads do the braking duties. Of note, the rear caliper is hidden on the inside of the swingarm for an extra-clean look.

Final touches include one-off aluminum rearsets, a slim LED taillight, modified seat, and a larger headlight mount complete with LED illumination. Additionally, Molds from the nose and seat unit were used to create custom carbon panels, with fixtures and fittings coming from Racefastener.

If you are into the resto-mod look like us (especially with old Katana motorcycles), then you will enjoy the high-res photo gallery that we have for you, below.
